News and updates à la Française, part quatre

Apparently Isabella Flores has teamed up with Linus Colmor Jepsen, and they will compete for France (see LPIDI entry link below): https://x.com/SylviaUnseen/status/1947677871679672829/photo/3

    Fall 2024-Summer 2025 New/Returning/Streaming/TV Shows

We just watched Mozart in the Jungle. It’s a little older (2014-18), but we missed it when it first came out. A unique & interesting premise, and so creative. Loved the cast; lots of high-level actors and directors associated with the show.

Online PBS has all 5 seasons of Astrid now. We've enjoyed it quite a bit.

    U.S. Women [#7]: Make Me a Believer!

LOL totally off topic but I have to disagree a bit here. Of course 2006 was a long time ago & I've forgotten a lot of the details ... but I can say Arakawa never fell off my radar as a 2006 contender. When you win Worlds the way she did in 2004 and have the kind of season she did that year, you...

The Dance Hall 12: Boston Tea Dance Party

I must say this new take on Cizeron is interesting ... after so many years of hearing talk about how his skating skills and dancing were unparalleled, and Gabriella was supposedly not on his level! Personally, I was always more invested in watching Gabi.

    2025 Grand Prix Assignments

You're right, C/B needed to do either France or China because of the date change for SA. And doing France would involve an early-season face-off with Cizeron. So that's likely what led to CoC. In general, I would be very interested to know some of the back story on what happened with SA this...

    2025 Grand Prix Assignments

I'm glad there have been some training videos of Beccari/Guarise! I missed them this past season.

    2025 Grand Prix Assignments

I am really scratching my head at both Alysa and Chock/Bates at Cup of China. Chock/Bates have done NHK as their second GP for 3 out of the last 4 years, so it's surprising that would change in what's presumably their final season. (Is it possible the Chinese fed is offering some kind of...

The Skating Session - A New Show

My family went to 3 events total at Boston Worlds, and I think it was worth it, yet it was also a real investment for us (and we did not have to travel). I'm glad it was such a good event, because for that price, it really needed to be!!

Here's an article about Smart/Dieck and their experience at Worlds: "The goal was top 10. A small medal in the free dance? No, we didn't expect that." https://adivinesport.com/2025/05/14/smart-dieck-surprise-even-themselves-with-breakout-season/

U.S. Cardinal Robert Prevost is Pope Leo XIV (Pope Francis has passed away)

I'm old enough to remember what a huge deal it was when John Paul II was elected pope (first non-Italian pope in centuries, I think?). So, given that, I'm amazed to see an American now actually elected pope. ? I for sure never expected to see that in my lifetime. It is definitely an exciting...

2025-2026 Challenger Series have been allocated

Yeah I'm not a fan of 3 separate U.S. midsummer/early-season events for singles, pairs, and ice dance (Cranberry, John Nicks, LPI). My 2 cents: Combine them all into one event worth going to, like they did in fall 2021, when LPIDI/Cranberry were both in Boston. (And yes, I know there's a...

    The Shibutanis Thread 7 . . . Years Later

I am bemused by the takes in other threads about the Shibs' strengths being all technical and performance level being an afterthought for them. Not sure how that narrative took hold? And someone actually mentioned their posture, which I always considered a strength--and heard mentioned as such...
