Thanks for the sum-up! That's very interesting. I always just assumed that he was of Vietnamese descent. Didn't even know there's Hakka Chinese diaspora in Mauritius.
I've always loved his movement quality. Out of the world's top 10-15 men's singles skaters, he stands out quite a bit in...
Hosting a dinner party today where we'll see P/C's performances on a projection screen. In preparation I went back to Roger Angel's short comment in The New Yorker on their 2018 FD. Still remember the validation I felt when I first read it. (Angel is one of my favorites from that golden era of...
They may be yours but they also confuse and bore casual audiences. Not that a sport should base its competition rules entirely on the perception of casual spectators.
Many of the circular step sequences in the FD over the past two Olympic cycles are both more technically challenging...
But figure skating steps and turns are set. One can always compare technical proficiency of different teams/skaters by looking at how well they do these things.
Some set patterns are fun, some just silly and bear little relation, kinetically speaking, to the actual dance movements they were...
So musical and a wonderful display of skating skills. His movement quality is top-class in the field. Their RD has a great groove as well. I don’t quite understand why they’ve been consistently underscored. Is it because of the unconventional height difference and her body line?

I haven’t been able to see the performance but this practice video of the RD looks great. They seem to etch their movements in space. Each finish was immaculate and a statement.
Maybe he was thinking about the time outside of the 7 minutes in competition. I got the impression that skaters were all pretty happy to be there and to spend a lot of time with their friends inside the bubble.
Hard to know what they were going for, as this was adapted from the Mozart rotational lift. I thought it kind of worked in the moment. But Guillaume did say the last elements were not perfect. Maybe he was talking about him slowing down toward the end of the lift. Only way to find out is to wait...
I mean, considering her past choreography, movement quality and performance style...this is not surprising. She actually would have a lot to look up to in S/K. P/C would be unreachable for her anyway.
The Flip in both her SP and LP at nationals that year were beautiful. I always felt that the telling jump for MK was the Axel. And her Axels that season looked really tight, in competition and in exhibition.
I remember the excitement and energy of Hughes's performance in SLC. Rewatched both...
