The book club I used to be in read The Wager by David Grann last year. It was tagged as a tale of shipwreck, mutiny, and murder. I found it riveting and I don't read a lot of nonfiction.
Even more shallow, I mentally rate shoes styles when sitting in a church waiting for the communion lines to finish. I've done that since I was a kid and I used to lean over and jab my mother whenever a particularly hideous pair went by.

I love romantasy and Fourth Wing was a 2 star read for me. I haven't read book 2 yet, but other reviews said the pacing dragged and Violet and Xaden needed to grow up and communicate.
That being said romantasy books are not going to give the same quality of world building and magic systems...
