I like to watch figure skating (especially ice dancing) while procrastinating on my research. The procrastination is especially exacerbated by the fact that I speak several languages fluently and I always find it hard to resist to respond to some mean French Youtube commenters when they fearlessly defend the beloved PC.
As a teenager, I did breakdance semi-professionally but then got injured and switched to salsa and bachata, so I think that's the main reason I love ice dancing (and sincerely appreciated the Shibutani's short program last year, I find that program to be the best interpretation of hip hop on ice, or at least "as close as it gets to the actual hip hop choreo").
Although I've spent half of my life in the nice cultural environment of the Southern US niceness, I am also Russian and I am naturally concerned with the state of Russian ice dance. I am also concerned about the issue of eating disorders in the Russian figure skating and as someone doing research in neuroscience, I wish my home country took the issue of mental health of its athletes and citizens more seriously (instead of letting people self-medicate with alcohol!). As such, all these things I find important will inevitably be seen in my biased comments on this wonderful forum, so I would profoundly appreciate your patience and discretion.
