We finally won something! LOL Man U beat Olympiacos today 3-0 and advanced to the CL final eight! And David Moyes job is safe for now. Dortmund also advance despite a 1-2 loss to Zenit.

Speaking of Bayern, big news this week is that Klinsmann got Bayern striker Julian Green to agree to play for the USA instead of Germany. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/soccer-insider/wp/2014/03/18/10-questions-about-julian-green/

The kid wont be any help this season, but he seems to have a lot of potential. He'll likely play in the USA/Mexico "friendly" on Apr 2nd.

Interesting note is that one thing that the kid talked about was how welcoming the USMNT players were to him. One suspects he'd be 'just another guy' on the German side, with the USA he has a chance to shine.

The Manchester Derby (pronounced *darby* in the UK, for whatever reason...;)..) is today. Man U's Red devils vs their Noisy Neighbors from Man City. Could be fun, but not 1/2 the hype of Spain's El Clasico from Sunday. Let the good times roll.

Looks like it is the Europa League for Man U next season, if we're lucky... They are stuck in seventh place and Chelsea is on top of the table with Liverpool close behind.

Liverpool FC has been tweeting a young girl who's father is missing aboard flight 370. He was a huge fan of the club and she continues to tweet her missing father about all things including the club's games.

Actually I think that death was the seventh but still tragic and went barely noticed by the international media.

On the positive side Man U tied Bayern but I do not hold out much hope for a positive result in the next leg. They are having too much of a hard time for me to believe they can defeat Bayern at home.

Sir Alex has taken a teaching position at Harvard U, so parish any thoughts of him coming back to Man U.

In an enormous surprise, USSoccer fired US Womens coach Tom Sermanni yesterday. USSoccer has clamped down on the players speaking about this, and we wont hear from Gulati till later today, so everything out there right now is speculation. But the betting odds are on a senior player revolt led by Abby Wambach. Sermanni's disasterous leadership in the recent Algarve Cup (USA finished 7th) probably started the ball rolling towards' yesterday's termination, but likely this has been brewing for a while.

IMO, this team has a ton of talent, but is leaderless. Wambach is obsessing about winning next years World Cup, but with the talent the team has at striker (Morgan, Leroux, Press) under correct leadership, would Abby even play? And no way Abby is going to put up with that. One wonders if we will ever know the truth. But IMO, this team needs a strong leader who can deal with the personalities. Is that person out there and available? 5 months before qualifying?

Poor United goes down to Everton 2-0. Moyes in free fall at this point...

I find this so interesting - he essentially has the same team as Fergie last season but no-where near the results and he isn't that bad a manager!! So what is that essential factor that Moyes is missing that Fergie had?

Beats the snot out of me, but I am out of patience. He needs to go.

Well he's gone - and I hope he finds another job soon - though as he had signed a 6 year contract I guess he has a pretty nice package to leave on so can maybe he can sit back and lick his wounds. As he was hand chosen by Fergie to take over I have no ide who on earth who would get the job now - Ryan Giggs is taking them through the end of the season.

I was speaking to a friend today who follows football here in the UK a lot closer than I do and he reckons that Fergie basically had a very, very firm hand at the helm - on the verge of brow-beating his players to do what he wanted. I guess that wasn't the way Moyes managed so the players didn't perform for him as they would have for Fergie. What people forget is that Fergie didn't win anything in his first few seasons with the club - however they have become so use to winning at least one trophy a year that anything less just won't cut it!! I just hope whoever gets the job on a permanent basis is made of sterner stuff.
