I am not sure that there is a "typical" protocol or a "typical" concussion for that matter. The brain is a delicate and complex organ. Be that as it may, it often takes weeks or months before someone who sustains a concussion to be fit enough to resume strenuous activities. If it is a concussion / head injury, isn't a typical protocol around 7-10 days? Which gives them some hope
It is all semantics, but Tim Daggett says that you not an Olympian until you get on the Olympic equipment. (paraphrasing)But when you're named to the team, you are an Olympian, in my book.
So many athletes, particularly in team sports, don't get to play as much as intended or planned, etc. Some don't even play at all. They are still Olympians.
But when you're named to the team, you are an Olympian, in my book.
This is also giving me flashbacks to the days leading up to Torino with Michelle KwanSo sad :-(
Hope it all works out.
Was heartbroken for Vincent Z in Beijing and will be for them too if they can't skate.

or years. but also days.it often takes weeks or months before someone who sustains a concussion to be fit enough to resume strenuous activities.
Maybe they haven't figured out that being out of the Team Event does not mean out of the Individual event?I’m starting to see posts from less reputable news sites saying that StelDud are out. Clickbait or real?
Worlds 2025 was the first time I've watched any pairs competition without checking first to make sure there were no bad falls. And I chickened out on the SP, (of course I had the excuse of 4 British coaches sat near me in the bar I was in...)...
(I was front row right in front of Totmianina at SA, so maybe that has made me over anxious over pairs accidents. We saw things that weren’t televised and I’ll never forget it.)
I feel horrible because everyone seems to be hoping she will somehow make it to skate, but if she’s got serious concussion I kind of hope she doesn’t. I know that sounds horribly mean after Deanna’s amazing journey and achievements, but if she just gets cleared in time she won’t have practiced in a couple of weeks, imagine suddenly doing lifts, twists and throws in a high pressure situation after not being able to train. It could be so dangerous for her, her partner (and potentially even others on the warm up.) I know there are experts who will make a decision but I still feel it would be risky.

In this case, you avoid the problem by calling them World Champions. Anyway I would. So if this injury keeps her from competing in the Games, and she's subsequently in SOI marketing materials as an Olympian, is it really a lie?
I cringe every time Malinin does one.Deeply depressing news. Totally agree that it’s concussion-coded language. Imagine the uproar if the accident resulted from training the backflip.
