2025 Grand Prix Assignments

Finally! :cheer2:

Mrazkovi at SkAm for the third time and Skate Canada. Taschlerovi got NHK this year, which could be great since NHK usually has very generous scoring in dance. I am bit surprised to see Tali/Lafornara only with one assignment. I hope F/F will get one of the host spots at GPDF.

Do organizers start picking from the end of the seasons best list? I wonder why Vuillamoz/Bouvart, Bombardier/Mimar, Shin/Nagy... got an assignment before Ghilardi/Ambosini, Hocke/Kunkel, the Poles, the Brits (who got one assignment for WS24 and are on top of the SB). I would habe assumed the ones with a higher SB to get a second assignment before the lower ranken teams.

Okay, reviewing the Pairs assignments... Two teams that should have been guaranteed 1 each were not assigned -

Holichenko/Darenskyi and Beccari/Guarise

LaurEth & PerMich got 2 - basically because CAN used all their host spots to ensure that their top 3 teams had 2 right out of the gate.

As expected, Flores/Wang are doing the Sr GP. USFS gave PlaFern a SkAm host spot. Fight between ChanHowe, McBPark and ShiNagy for the SkAm host TBD spot. EfiMit and KamOSh are elsewhere, which makes sense since they were guaranteed 2 GPs.

MiuKih did not choose NHK and JPN only held one TBD spot.

FRA has 2 TBD host spots, Les Kovs are at NHK & probably penciled in for one of the GPdF host spots.

CHN has 2 TBD host spots - one will likely go to Zhang/Huang, who are at Finlandia.

No host spots for FIN, so that means Milania Vaananen is still searching for a new partner or, if she has one that's unannounced, the Finnish fed doesn't believe they'll be ready to compete at a GP by the end of November.

OK I’m just going to chime in as I’m having my coffee and going over the grids now … these are the worst grids I have ever seen ever.. so much crap doesn’t make sense, more than normal lol

Why is Lucrezia and Matteo not getting squat? Not even as European champions that were injured last year they don’t get Two? Three us dance teams going to China

Bestie @SidelineSkater and @Karen-W called it with Amber going to China but who saw Alysa going there? I thought people said that it was touch and go for her to go there because of her dad or some stuff from last Olympics. I did, however have Amber going to Finland.

I haven’t even gotten to the men’s field yet, but my Besty said there’s a surprise there, which I don’t even know what it’s going to be, so far I’m not happy with anything lol

They should just let the fans compile and a sign out these assignments, they clearly don’t know what they’re doing. At all.

Only Alysa is going to Skate America, with two TBD? Does the US really need the TBD in women? Why did they choose to give up a spot for men instead?

Also, I'm a little shocked that Jia Shin only got one GP spot. I know her SB was not great last year, but I thought that the ISU would find a way to make room for the three time wjc silver medalist.

I love that France did not even pick Les Kovs, but another Federation did, who is France going to fill with these two spots if not Les Kovs.

And for skate America being such a schlep for west coasters, and into a destination I have zero feelings about or even care about I think I’m even happier decided to go to Prague.

OK I need to go over these grids a second third and fourth time now. Lol

Surprised by only 2 US men at Skate America and would have thought we would see either K/O or E/M there

I know I’m like why are skate America for pairs picking the two what I’m still gonna call very very very Junior teams and not even the US champions? Does Misha have a dentist appointment that weekend?

Can we just fast forward to next year and skate America goes first and hopefully things will be semi-crappy instead of crappy?

😛

Not only does the USFSA kiss and cry coordinator need to be canned so does the selection committee lol

Quick review of Dance -

Finlandia is going to be a BLOODBATH with potentially 3 GP winners going at it - GilPoir, FBCiz and the Shibs.

USFS, Skate Canada & FFSG give ZERO f*cks about FearGib and GuigFab - head-to-head at both GPdF and NHK. And, of course, at GPdF, there's also FBCiz to contend with. And then at NHK, they get the Shibs making their debut.

BraSom came out with 2 on the initial assignments because both JPN & FIN threw their 3rd host spot back in the selection pool.

FradForn are likely to pick up a 2nd - their initial assignment is to SkAm while the FFSG is holding 2 TBD host spots.

USFS & Skate Canada doing their best by their clear #2s - CarPon & LajLag both assigned to SCI and SkAm.

So much to digest about these fields - early handicapping would have CoC as the easiest & a cakewalk for ChoBat. Silver will be a hard-fought battle between SmaDie & LopBri for either team's only medal on the GP this season. SmaDie's 2nd event is the stacked Finlandia (GilPoir, FBCiz, Shibs & TurkVers). LopBri's 2nd event is SkAm where they're not getting past ChoBat, CarPon & LajLag for the podium, IMO.

I'm really surprised G/F picked France. Being 4th at Worlds, they had 1st pick among the 4-6 group.

At NHK, I could see the French fed engineering a takedown of both F/G and G/F to help clear the way for a spot on the Oly podium for FB/C. Which would also create a challenger to C/B for USA #1. Win-win for them. But depending on how much influence Marie-France has, maybe the Shibs will only take out G/F.

I hate Oly year dance politiks. Last time seemed relatively calm, but that was probably b/c of the pandemic plus lack of contenders outside the top 4.
