Just out of curiosity, where's the actual official announcement of the 19/20 rhythm? I haven't found it through a google search...

Crossposting my brainstorm list from The Dance Hall:

The key, for me, with musicals is don't overdo it. People want to try to tell the whole story in 2 minutes. Not possible. Pick a great scene. Or maybe a subplot with a couple minor characters. One or two songs. NOT four or five. You can't do everything.

Brainstorms:
Be Italian--Guignard & Fabbri
Sweeney Todd--McNamara & Carpenter
I'm a Woman from Smokey Joe's Cafe--Hubbell & Donohue
One Singular Sensation from A Chorus Line--The Parsons
Nothing Like a Dame from South Pacific--Chock & Bates
Something There from Beauty and the Beast--Stepanova & Bukin
Shall We Dance from The King and I--Wang & Liu (I don't really care who does this, but I must have a Shall We Dance, and the guy has to have at least some personality. Liu could do it, and she could sell Anna).
Show Me from My Fair Lady--Muramoto & Reed
All 'Er Nothing from Oklahoma--Hawayek & Baker

I wasn't going to suggest My Fair Lady because it's been done exceptionally well, but the
Eliza & Freddy relationship in Show Me is different and would totally work for Chris & Kana.

Added Note 1: As I said above, I would love a Shall We Dance from The King and I, especially from a team in which the guy has enough personality to really play the king.

Added Note 2: I do not, however, need to see another Fred & Ginger ice dance program ever again in my life. Not ever. (For any teams considering this, I would just like to recommend you go back and watch the umpteen versions we were forced to sit through during the toe-tapping mid-nineties rule era. Whatever you are thinking of doing, it has been done).

We need to start a betting pool to see if P/C actually do something different or they just find something that fits the broadway/opretta theme thats their style.

I'll add my suggestion from the dance thread here.

Chock/Bates need to skate to RENT using the songs for Mimi & Roger's love story.

It would be so awesome!

If any team skates to anything from RENT, I will uber them forever.

Ok I am going to go way out of the box here... not as a serious suggestion (necessarily) so much as a question. Would songs from something like the Buffy the Vampire Slayer musical episode count?

Ah I see it has to have one of the designated rhythms - that would make it a bit hard. But won't that rule out a lot of the other suggestions here as well?

OMG, if someone used Bunnies or They Got The Mustard Out:lol:

More seriously, the only song I could see working is I'll Never Tell, and maybe Dawn's Ballet but it's far too short. I couldn't possibly say if it works with any of the rhythms.

This is a Charleston to the song "The Lonely Goatherd" from the Sound of Music.

It should work for a quickstep also.

Dear Skategods, please let someone skate to this!!! :respec: :rollin::rofl:

The Duchesnays did that for their polka in 1992 with middling results:

In fact their FD was also to a Broadway score: West Side Story.

When people say they want to see Papadakis/Cizeron "venture out" I have this fear in my head that the results would be like the Duchesnays 1992 routines and I just say keep doing what you're doing Gui and Gabbi.

I was just thinking about the Duchesneys in 1992 the other day (and to a lesser extent K & O in 98/99). There is nothing as a skating fan quite like the helpless feeling when your favorites have programs that don't suit them in a pivotal year!

Yes you definitely need the right team to be able to pull it off successfully.

The Duschesnays weren't that team... :shuffle:

I could see G/P being quirky/campy enough to do a good job of it though.

I'm hoping for a Blues for P/C.

i'm just catching up here while sitting at work, so i've just barely skimmed all of the comments; my apologies if this question has already been answered: is there a required dance pattern(s) for the broadway themed rd's next year?

Blues wouldn’t really be that different a choice musically for P and C. It would still be languid and smooth.
Unless they pick something with a rock/blues vibe.

Yeah not so different but I think that's why I want to see them do it.

I know they would be so good at Blues.

Please do.
I’m down for it.
Anyone not interested can leave the thread.

I'm going to try to keep it to songs I think can work with the following rhythms: Quickstep, Blues, March, Polka or Foxtrot so no sweeping ballads or anything.

Just to start:

I wonder if Gershwin tunes to My One and Only could work. Check out the Tommy Tune choreography:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkr0bWRIvy8

I always thought this "beach" dance set to "S'Wonderful" was cute and it features a dance with Tune and Twiggy that I can see ice dancers doing:

https://youtu.be/7KPHUCta7qU?t=31

The lyrics to "Turkey Lurkey Time" from the Burt Bacharach musical Promises, Promises are silly but this dance is incredible, especially by lead dancer Donna McKechnie:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkBZ0-r_M-8

There's no video clip of this song, but when I saw "Dancing" from Hello Dolly! a year or two ago, I thought it was just a brilliantly choreographed number. However, I think this is a waltz and therefore not one of the prescribed rhythms.

Also, the overused Andrew Lloyd Webber version of Theme of Paganini used most famously by Usova/Zhulin in 1991 and Torvill/Dean's Rock n' Roll 1983 OSP is technically from a Broadway show, Song & Dance.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fEHsR679g1M = T/D

Speaking of the Blues, "Summertime" is from Porgy and Bess which would also count as it was first produced on Broadway.

Jerome Kern and a lot of the Rodgers/Hart stuff would be great for a blues rhythm.

Wait, they're not allowed to do waltzes? That would be unfortunate. So many good show tunes are waltzes.

ISU hasn’t communicated the required pattern dance steps, right? Or, is it a pattern of their own design as long as it’s March, Polka, Quickstep, Foxtrot, or Blues? The latter basically being the OD?

Praying for Yankee Polka!

I believe the pattern is of their own design so long as it's a march, polka, quickstep, foxtrot, or blues. I think they're hoping to choose a new pattern from a team(s) as a set pattern for the future.

I know! Carousel Waltz, Embassy Waltz from My Fair Lady, the score from A Little Night Music, Beautiful Candy from Carnival, Waltz for a Ball from Cinderella, etc.

But "Shall We Dance" from The King and I is a polka and would definitely work!

Of course, there's Cole Porter's Anything Goes:

Thoroughly Modern Millie would work as well although I prefer the film version:

I want Bring On The Men from Jekyll & Hyde, but I don’t know if I think it’s a better foxtrot or polka.
