The Shibutanis Thread 4: Ready for Paradise

What did Charlie say?
He just said little about th Shibs except their famous precision and then well, you can't afford a mistake at this event -- then raved about HD for 10 pages -mesmerizing, natural talent, and on and on and on.

Chapis I blame you. I remember you saying earlier that Maia should make some mistakes too and I guess she heard you :p

In all seriousness though, I’m definitely upset for them, but they’ll rise above this. If H/D could be in position to upset the podium at Worlds 2017 as national bronze medalists, the Shibs can definitely make the Olympic podium as the silver medalists. And maybe being in the position of attacking from behind will work out better for them at the Olympics than the pressure of being the defending champions, which seems to have been accumulating for 2 seasons on their shoulders and really affected them this season.

But what happen with Maia, she only follow my bad advices, what about when I ask her to keep the original SD dress????

This has been an awful Nationals for all my favorites. Wow, I can’t believe a single person/team I was personally invested in had good results. The same happened at Japanese Nationals. The only person I was invested in was Wakaba and she didn’t make it either. :wuzrobbed

Re: Charlie, I think he is just close with the Shibs and it’s probably more difficult to find things to say about such a disappointing moment for them.

I think the pressure of holding off the other US teams was starting to crush the Shibs. It’s really hard to maintain consistency in that kind of pressure cooker when you’re constantly the one with the target on your backs. It may not seem like it now, and maybe VGT is right and they’ll be dumped at this Olympics, but maybe being released from this pressure will bring out much better skates at the Olympics than they would’ve had otherwise (whether they get rewarded for it or not).

I think people have been ho-hum about the past two Free Dances, and them continuing to win with those programs created a sentiment and those people just love Hubbell/Donohue and their FDs and even Chock/Bates' routines. That sentiment has taken over to now and people are feeling a bit celebratory.

Yes, it is a positive thing that being national champions, H/D won´t be seen anymore like the poor victims who never win over the Shibs.
And Olympics are very different from any other competition, yes, the last two competitions Maia and Alex made mistakes, but H/D made mistakes too, this FD spin level 2, we can´t deny that H/D are more prone to mistakes and Korea will be their first olympics games.

I think so too. I think every other country no. 1 team has the luxury of not worrying about their status and can just skate well and concentrate on their international rivals. The Shibs have had the pressure of maintaining their no. 1 status for 2 and a half seasons now and it finally boiled over. Especially at nationals when I bet so many wanted them to lose since Nationals is local and every team has more supporters there in the community.

I'm avoiding all other dance threads for a bit. It's just better for me mentally at this point. I don't understand why people would be upset by them winning with their free dances though? I'm not a fan of some of the other ones at all, but I don't get angry that they win things with them. I'll leave it general because I don't want to invoke the wrath of various stans.

Me too, except for the pairs event, which I actually don’t care that much about.

Needless to say, sad for our Shibs.

Precisely I was very happy for Mirai and Karen and I thought this would not be free of charge, I was right, Shibs paid for that

a drunk person (jbukbee) just came to this thread?
-----------------

I have also noticed that the Nationals have always been very important for the Shibs, they are very proud of being American. Definitely this adds extra pressure, but remember that in Korea they had those incredible performances in 4cc, it sure will be repeated.

How did Shibs pay for that?

Don't take it too seriously. Chapis was just saying that she got what she wanted for Mirai and Karen and she paid for it with the Shibs' losing the title. It's just a light-hearted comment not meant to be serious.
