The points at the 2022 Olympics are very clear.

Yuzuru was a 4S (he can do in his sleep with step in and a spread eagle out) in the SP away from bronze.

Yuzuru could have done a fairly routine performance, by his own standards, in the SP and LP and won silver.

Yuzuru wanted glory, so he went for the 4A, although he probably can still match ALL of Kagiyama's content.

Yuzuru is a great champion, and at this stage of his career he has achieved so much that it is hard to tell when and where to rest on his laurels instead of go for the glory.

No, the press conference was set up because there were too many requests of interviews which are difficult to arrange. JOC also stated it is not a news conference and no special announcement from Yuzuru is planned so they asked everyone to refrain from speculations.

As Kurt Browning said, he wasn't going for scores he was going for history.
As a fan of Yuzu, I feel no regrets (regrets maybe is not the right word) for him going for the 4A. As I mentioned here before, he has won every title there is, including 2 OGM back to back. So, there is nothing left to "prove" here. I will say though that I wished he had presented two special choreo for his programs. Not because I didn't like his programs but I wanted something to remember for years to come. Something...WOW!

I'm maybe a bit biased here because I wished he would skate to the music of Morricone. I can see no other skater who would do it justice.

Yuzuru has announced to retire from competitive skating and turn professional. It's a very sad day for figure skating and I'm certain men's figure skating will not be the same without him. Congratulations to him on his wonderful career. I wish him happiness, good health and all the best in his future endeavours.

It was a privilege to follow his career in the past decade and support him at competitions. He's achieved everything in this sport that is possible. 12 years in seniors, 2 Olympic individual gold medals, 2 Worlds gold medals and 7 Worlds medals, 19 world records and the long list goes on. He is, in my opinion the most complete skater this sport has ever seen, with the perfect combination of the highest quality of technique and artistry.

I'll look forward to follow what his plans are for the future - new shows, or other events (first a big farewell tour maybe?).

Yuzuru has opened an official Youtube channel today and uploaded his first video in which he welcomes the viewers. At the press conference on 19 July he mentioned that he would like to make his skating more accessible for everyone - he said in his first video that his skating and performances will be seen on his channel too so this is a great step. I am looking forward to see what he will show us in his videos.

More than 200 000 people have subscribed to his channel in just 8 hours and his first video has 700 000 views and 26 000 comments. These are unbelieveable numbers (and considering Youtube isn't available in China, multiple it by a few times, since he has millions of fans there too).
The comments under the video are really heartwarming, he is so well loved and respected around the world.

Thank you for so many subscribers and for leaving such touching comments. I’m very happy and surprised at the same time. I was truly nervous and restless the whole time until the launch of the channel but I didn’t think there would be this many subscribers and I was truly happy to receive comments from people around the world. I created the channel with the desire to create more opportunities to view my skating. I’d be happy if everyone could find some enjoyment from it. I’m still only planning video (ideas) in my head but I’d like to do some sort of periodic activity that will create the opportunity for everyone to see my performance.

In terms of the channel name, I decided to write it in romaji ‘Hanyu Yuzuru’, to give a similar feeling to seeing it in competitions. Today's live stream was a bit more than 2 hours long, with 1 hour warm-up and 1 hour practice on the ice. Yuzu said he wanted to show that he’s still an athlete, that’s why he did this practice session. He skated to Seimei and he said he was happy that he was able to skate to the full Olympics version (he did 4 quads, with 4S-3T in the second half and the 4T-eu-3S he originally planned in PyeongChang).

He also did a 4Lo-3T which was a big surprise, it was a beautiful (it is at the 1:25.50 mark in the video below). He mentioned that he's been practicing 4Lo combinations to show that he’s got the potential to include them in a program.

The stream was hugely successful, at one point there were 107 000 people watching the stream and now the video has over 1 million views. His YouTube channel has surpassed 500 000 subscribers - and this in just 3 days Incredible!

Yuzuru took part at a ceremony in Tokyo today that celebrated the 50th anniversary of the normalization of Japan-China diplomacy.

In his five-minute speech at the event, Hanyu said he hopes that Japan and China will "build a better relationship because they are neighbors," expressing willingness to contribute to improving bilateral ties. "Today is a memorable day, and I feel very glad," said the figure skater, who became the youngest recipient of the Japanese government's People's Honor Award at age 23 in 2018. Looking back to the Beijing Games, Hanyu said he "got involved with Chinese people's kindness and warmness, which were impressive."

Yuzuru has announced his new ice show titled 'Prologue'. There will be four shows, on 4-5 November at Yokohama and 2-3 December at Hachinoche.

“I organised the ice show in the hope that (everyone) can feel my history and my skating career itself up till now. This is an ice show where I will be doing everything by myself for the first time. The title is ‘Prologue’. It would be nice if various stories could be woven from now on’, Hoping that this ice show will become the ‘prologue’ of those stories’ - with these thoughts in mind, I will be going all out.”

The ticket lottery for the Yokohama shows will start on 5 October. Tickets prices will be between 15 000 and 25 000 yen.

Only two weeks to go until Yuzu's first show, I can't wait for it!

The Axel with Wings team has finished translating the Yuzuru TV Asahi Special 'The Never-Ending Challenges' which was broadcasted on 23 July, a few days after Yuzu has announced going pro. It is a more than 1.5 hour long show and the team has translated it in three parts. The translation itself took them 143 pages...it is so much work. It is a great programme, definitely worth watching it.
