The points at the 2022 Olympics are very clear.

Yuzuru was a 4S (he can do in his sleep with step in and a spread eagle out) in the SP away from bronze.

Yuzuru could have done a fairly routine performance, by his own standards, in the SP and LP and won silver.

Yuzuru wanted glory, so he went for the 4A, although he probably can still match ALL of Kagiyama's content.

Yuzuru is a great champion, and at this stage of his career he has achieved so much that it is hard to tell when and where to rest on his laurels instead of go for the glory.

A Hanyu press conference is scheduled fueling speculation that this might be a retirement announcement...or not.

No, the press conference was set up because there were too many requests of interviews which are difficult to arrange. JOC also stated it is not a news conference and no special announcement from Yuzuru is planned so they asked everyone to refrain from speculations.

Here's the press conference with an English translator. It's kind of hard to understand due to her accent and the talking going on at the same time, but nice to hear from Yuzuru. He mentioned that his ankle is hurting and he had to take painkillers. The dr. said he should stay off it but he still practiced a bit.

I read the Twitter thread of his interview by Jackie Wang. Yuzuru is adorable. Good to know he wants to skate more. Good health and happiness to him.

This! (y)
As Kurt Browning said, he wasn't going for scores he was going for history.
As a fan of Yuzu, I feel no regrets (regrets maybe is not the right word) for him going for the 4A. As I mentioned here before, he has won every title there is, including 2 OGM back to back. So, there is nothing left to "prove" here. I will say though that I wished he had presented two special choreo for his programs. Not because I didn't like his programs but I wanted something to remember for years to come. Something...WOW!

I'm maybe a bit biased here because I wished he would skate to the music of Morricone. I can see no other skater who would do it justice.

Axel with wings have translated the whole press conference which is more accurate than the live translation. Here is the video: https://axelwithwings.com/2022/02/1...u-beijing-olympics-press-conference-20200214/

In other news, JSF published today that Yuzuru has withdrawn from the World Championships because the ankle injury he sustained at practice in Beijing has not been healed completely. I hope he gets better soon 🙏 https://www.skatingjapan.or.jp/common/img/info/WFSC_Yuzuru Hanyu.pdf

The next two stops of FaOI are Kobe and Shizuoka where he'll probably skate to a different program.
This video, edited together from the Shizuoka day 3 live broadcast, has his new gala number RAISON by Taisei Miyakawa (choreo. by David Wilson) & his encore to a live performance of "Dance My Esmeralda" from Notre-Dame de Paris: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GivlPYhwltI

Tweeted clip of a Japanese news report on the Shizuoka show (Hanyu does a huge delayed single Axel at the beginning): https://twitter.com/miruru1207yuzu/status/1540682649291079681

Article in English (July 1):

Hanyu's 2022-23 Team Japan profile on JSF's website as of July 1, 2022: https://www.skatingjapan.or.jp/figure/player/detail.php?id=N0qvoSfQGYA=
A word of comment
Thank you for your continued support.
I will do my best to reach higher heights this season as well.

Yuzuru has announced to retire from competitive skating and turn professional. It's a very sad day for figure skating and I'm certain men's figure skating will not be the same without him. Congratulations to him on his wonderful career. I wish him happiness, good health and all the best in his future endeavours.

It was a privilege to follow his career in the past decade and support him at competitions. He's achieved everything in this sport that is possible. 12 years in seniors, 2 Olympic individual gold medals, 2 Worlds gold medals and 7 Worlds medals, 19 world records and the long list goes on. He is, in my opinion the most complete skater this sport has ever seen, with the perfect combination of the highest quality of technique and artistry.

I'll look forward to follow what his plans are for the future - new shows, or other events (first a big farewell tour maybe?).

I’m gifting this New York Times article by Juliet Macur titled We May Never See Another Skater Like Yuzuru Hanyu.

(A version of this article appears in print on July 21, 2022, Section B, Page 6 (full page!) of the New York edition with the headline: Oh, Pooh. Hanyu Hangs It Up.).

It should be available for 2 weeks to read online.

ETA:

Brian Orser and Tracy Wilson posted a video from the Cricket club on Tuesday ("Heartfelt gratitude for our amazing journey. Keep inspiring the world. Be you.") and re-posted it in better quality yesterday: https://www.instagram.com/reel/CgPOW3CJScw/

Javier Fernandez's post: https://www.instagram.com/p/CgOzng9r39v/
Yuzu-kun, I don't even know from where to start.
First of all, congratulations on you incredible career and thank you for every lesson you gived to the skating world. With your effort, year by year you became a legend, a star.
I had the luck to share many moments with you on the ice and off the ice and the pleasure to see you grow as a man and as an skater.
I've learned so much been with you in trainings and in competitions, thanks to that, I also became a stronger skater.
I wish you the best in this new part of your life, and I'm sure we will keep enyoing your espectacular way of skating, in figure skating shows!!
Otsukaresama deshita Yuzu!! 👑🎉

I liked seeing these quotes from his early coaches:
Shoichiro Tsuzuki, 84, who coached the two-time Olympic and two-time world champion during his elementary school days, said he had "never met such a great athlete" and that Hanyu "raised the level of Japanese figure skating and set a great example for children."
"He loves skating and is determined to continue to improve his skating. I hope he will build on his past experiences to express himself in a new world," Tsuzuki added.
Mami Yamada, 48, who coached Hanyu from the age of 4 until his second year of elementary school, congratulated her former mentee on his skating career, saying, "There are times you win and times you don't, but I believe you have done all you can."

Yuzuru has opened an official Youtube channel today :respec:and uploaded his first video in which he welcomes the viewers. At the press conference on 19 July he mentioned that he would like to make his skating more accessible for everyone - he said in his first video that his skating and performances will be seen on his channel too so this is a great step. I am looking forward to see what he will show us in his videos.:cheer2:

More than 200 000 people have subscribed to his channel in just 8 hours and his first video has 700 000 views and 26 000 comments. These are unbelieveable numbers (and considering Youtube isn't available in China, multiple it by a few times, since he has millions of fans there too).
The comments under the video are really heartwarming, he is so well loved and respected around the world.

Yuzu will hold an open practice on his YouTube channel tomorrow, on 10 August at around noon JST. It'll be an hour him warming up and practicing. It'll probably be live streamed on this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MY3dlxt9MvQ

His first video on YouTube has reached 2.1 million views and 62 000 comments in just 2 days, his channel has now 425 000 subscribers. 👏 All major Japanese TV stations and newspapers reported about his new channel.

He uploaded his second video today in which he talked about his channel in more details. Link to the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1FtplF-LBe4&t
Again thanks to the Axel with wings team for the translation: https://axelwithwings.com/2022/08/0...-yuzuru-youtube-2-about-the-channel-20220809/

This is figure skater Yuzuru Hanyu. Thank you very much for watching. I’m here to announce again that I have launched my official Youtube channel. Thank you for so many subscribers and for leaving such touching comments. I’m very happy and surprised at the same time. I was truly nervous and restless the whole time until the launch of the channel but I didn’t think there would be this many subscribers and I was truly happy to receive comments from people around the world. Thank you very much.

I created the channel with the desire to create more opportunities to view my skating. I’d be happy if everyone could find some enjoyment from it. I’m still only planning video (ideas) in my head but I’d like to do some sort of periodic activity that will create the opportunity for everyone to see my performance.

In terms of the channel name, I decided to write it in romaji ‘Hanyu Yuzuru’, to give a similar feeling to seeing it in competitions. The reason why it’s not ‘Yuzuru Hanyu’ is because I wanted it to feel a little more like that of a Japanese person and more like myself, which is why it’s ‘Hanyu Yuzuru’.

About the markings on the logo, actually, they’re the markings from when I do my spins and jumps. I sent photos of them and (the logo) is drawn based on those photos. I think it feels very real and cool. I’m really thankful (to those who created it). I jumped the Axel (for the header). I’d be happy if you like it.

In the future, I’ll put out performances so that you’ll be glad that I created this channel. I’ll put in all of my efforts and do my very best going forward. I hope you will enjoy it. That’s all, thank you very much.

Today's live stream was a bit more than 2 hours long, with 1 hour warm-up and 1 hour practice on the ice. Yuzu said he wanted to show that he’s still an athlete, that’s why he did this practice session. He skated to Seimei and he said he was happy that he was able to skate to the full Olympics version (he did 4 quads, with 4S-3T in the second half and the 4T-eu-3S he originally planned in PyeongChang).

He also did a 4Lo-3T which was a big surprise, it was a beautiful (it is at the 1:25.50 mark in the video below). He mentioned that he's been practicing 4Lo combinations to show that he’s got the potential to include them in a program.

The stream was hugely successful, at one point there were 107 000 people watching the stream  and now the video has over 1 million views. His YouTube channel has surpassed 500 000 subscribers - and this in just 3 days 👏 Incredible!

The whole video can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MY3dlxt9MvQ

The full 67 minute-long press conference of 19 July has been translated by the Axel with Wings team. Many thanks to them, it is so much work to do. 🙏The whole video with the English subtitles can be found here.

On 27 August Yuzuru performed a perfect Rondo Capriccioso short program in 24h TV program on NTV. It was magnificient, every element was at the highest level - He is in incredible shape. 😍 A multi camera + one camera version has been uploaded here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rq20-bU6KNc

Meanwhile, in just 3 weeks, Yuzuru's YouTube channel has reached 700 000 subscribers and the 3 videos he has uploaded has more than 8 million views already. Wow!👏

Yuzuru took part at a ceremony in Tokyo today that celebrated the 50th anniversary of the normalization of Japan-China diplomacy.
Mainichi article about the event: Figure skater Hanyu celebrates 50th anniversary of Japan-China ties:

In his five-minute speech at the event, Hanyu said he hopes that Japan and China will "build a better relationship because they are neighbors," expressing willingness to contribute to improving bilateral ties. "Today is a memorable day, and I feel very glad," said the figure skater, who became the youngest recipient of the Japanese government's People's Honor Award at age 23 in 2018. Looking back to the Beijing Games, Hanyu said he "got involved with Chinese people's kindness and warmness, which were impressive."

There is also a video of the event: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TOkWKyrwBCE. The description says:

Japanese Olympic figure skating champion Yuzuru Hanyu provided some star power at an event in Tokyo on Thursday celebrating the 50th anniversary of the normalization of ties between Japan and China. Hanyu, who won gold at the 2014 Sochi and 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, remains extremely popular in both countries. Hanyu said he was honoured to be part of the celebration and hopes that Japan and China can grow closer.

For the first time, Yuzu also opened a Twitter account https://twitter.com/YUZURUofficial_ and also an Instagram account today: https://www.instagram.com/yuzuruofficial_/
He can now announce his activities, like new shows etc on his official social media. ;)

Yuzu also went to a couple of local TV shows recently and he talked about a lot of interesting things. He's working on shows (though it is still not known when and where they will take place). He seems to be busier than ever :)

Well it’s actually the second time. He got hounded off a couple of months ago because there was a typo in the post and his fans thought it was fake. Hope it goes better this time!
Admittedly I don't follow the legacy of the Fanyus, but I think that was Youtube where he had that drama. Twitter? This is the first I'm hearing of one.

I mean for the first time when the account looks really like an official one. Surely it goes better this time. 130k followers on Instagram and 92k on Twitter in half a day

It was Twitter, not Youtube.

Yuzuru has announced his new ice show titled 'Prologue'. There will be four shows, on 4-5 November at Yokohama and 2-3 December at Hachinoche.

The official website of the show: https://prologue-official.jp/ and there's also an official Twitter account: https://twitter.com/jp_prologue

He said of the show (translation is from here):
“I organised the ice show in the hope that (everyone) can feel my history and my skating career itself up till now. This is an ice show where I will be doing everything by myself for the first time. The title is ‘Prologue’. It would be nice if various stories could be woven from now on’, Hoping that this ice show will become the ‘prologue’ of those stories’ - with these thoughts in mind, I will be going all out.”

The ticket lottery for the Yokohama shows will start on 5 October. Tickets prices will be between 15 000 and 25 000 yen.

I can't wait for the shows:cheer2:

Yuzu has uploaded a new video on his Youtube channel today. He skated to 'Change' which is a fun exhibition number, and to a performance to a song called 'Dreamy Aspiration' by MoppySound. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0IO_knQDCI. It's been a long while he has shown the Biellmann spin! The 4T-3A then 3Lo-eu-3S was so great as well. Beautiful skating as always.

He also posted this about today's video:
I posted a new video. It's (my) first time filming and editing (my own) performance, so I'm worried if everyone will like it... I hope you can enjoy (my) skating from angles that you don't get to see very often through the sense of realism and speed shown at the venue. Many staff (members) are also involved in making『Prologue』 (We) hope you look forward to it. Thank you so much. Hanyu Yuzuru " (translation is from here)

Great work Yuzu. 👏

In other news, Tracy Wilson sent a video message to Yuzu and his fans. Lovely words from her! Link here.

An additional performance in Hachinohe, on 5 December (Monday) has been decided (the demand is obviously huge): https://twitter.com/YUZURUofficial_/status/1582917311828463616

The second day of the Yokohama performance, on 5 November (Saturday) will be broadcasted live on TV Asahi 2:
https://twitter.com/YUZURUofficial_/status/1582192514790232064

Only two weeks to go until Yuzu's first show, I can't wait for it! :cheer2:

The Axel with Wings team has finished translating the Yuzuru TV Asahi Special 'The Never-Ending Challenges' which was broadcasted on 23 July, a few days after Yuzu has announced going pro. It is a more than 1.5 hour long show and the team has translated it in three parts. The translation itself took them 143 pages...it is so much work. It is a great programme, definitely worth watching it.(y)
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3

A membership system has been added on Yuzu's YouTube channel too, there will be members-only videos, surveys, questionnaires, amongst others.🙂 https://twitter.com/YUZURUofficial_/status/1581963237008236546
