At this point, he's a long shot for the OGM even if he wins the LP, so why shouldn't he go for the one thing he still lacks on his resume? It's likely to be his last competition. Let him skate it the way he wants. He has proven how great he is and now maybe he wants to innovate. It doesn't mean it will work but if he wants to try it then I think he should. I don't necessarily think it is about winning rather than conquering new ground.
Leading up to this Olympics he probably thought he might not win another gold so why not be remembered for something no one else can do?I don't see the point to throwing in a 4A attempt just for the sake of trying it at the Olympic. Yuzu has never came close to landing the jump cleanly on one foot. He should just concentrate on doing a clean LP with the elements that he can do.
Hanyu's planned jump layout for tomorrow night:
Again ... I don't get it.
It sounds self defeatist (his thinking), but I thought most top skaters would at least want to do their best to Win.Leading up to this Olympics he probably thought he might not win another gold so why not be remembered for something no one else can do?
Thanks for this interview. It is nice to read his thoughts. Good luck to him in the LP. I hope he feels happy about his skate.Eurosport has uploaded his short program from today (I don't know if it is geoblocked somewhere)

I wish him good luck in the free skate and on the 4A, I also can't wait to see his 3A-3Lo at competition and his 3F again.
Not sure which country you're in, but in the uk it's only the main eurosport channels (1&2) that cut away from the skating. There's also a eurosport 3, 4 and 5 at the moment (possibly only for the Olympics, I'm not sure, and they might be channel versions of the red button) but they showed the whole mens sp on eurosport 4 without a break If you've got a Sky box, the channel numbers are:I couldn't see Yuzu. In fact, I missed lots of skaters. Eurosport stopped broadcasting the FS after the first 2 groups and came back after Shoma. Soooo annoying.
So, he popped 4S, I read. Podium or not, I say still go for it (4A) in the free. It's up to him, obviously, but I don't see the point of playing it safe. In my mind I would be like, I have 2 OGM, back to back. Do I care more to win a silver or bronze - which is not even guaranteed - or take the risk and make history? I'm a risk taker, but that's just me.
Anyone know why he has no coach?

He has not landed the 4A even once. I just don't see the point of him going for it.
...
As long as he is happy with it, I need to accept it.
...
BTW I am wondering if his late arrival may have affected him? He didn't skate in the TE.
In one of the earlier post I asked about Orser, why he was not in the KC with Yuzu. Someone posted a reply that Yuzu wanted it that way (be alone in KC) but it appears that Orser is still coaching him, remotely. If anyone can land the 4A when it seems impossible my bet would be on Hanyu. I won’t be surprised if he lands it. He is a fierce competitor.
I won’t be disappointed if it doesn’t work out for him. His accomplishments and contribution to figure skating are what I will remember him for.

I'm in Italy. I have Sky but I can see only channels 1 and 2, both ESP Italy and UK.Not sure which country you're in, but in the uk it's only the main eurosport channels (1&2) that cut away from the skating. Just my guess but I think Yuzu thinks of Brian as more of a consultant or peer than a coach. In one of the earlier post I asked about Orser, why he was not in the KC with Yuzu. Yuzu has asthma, right? Maybe he's just being uber cautiousIn one of the earlier post I asked about Orser, why he was not in the KC with Yuzu. Someone posted a reply that Yuzu wanted it that way (be alone in KC) but it appears that Orser is still coaching him, remotely.
Orser is credentialed at the Olympics with the Korean fed. and has been by the boards in practice/kiss & cry with Junhwan Cha and Jason (as his secondary coach). This article is 3-4 months old but it confirms that Brian Orser is Yuzuru's coach. He coaches him virtually due to the YKW.
Does it mean he cannot be the coach of a Japanese skater?Orser is credentialed at the Olympics with the Korean fed. and has been by the boards in practice/kiss & cry with Junhwan Cha and Jason (as his secondary coach).
No, I assume it was a mutual decision between them (ETA): https://twitter.com/swizzlespice/status/1490954665504415744Does it mean he cannot be the coach of a Japanese skater?
Oh my god!! I love you! Thank you so much I had no idea there were 3 more Eurosport channels - they are at the very bottom of the sky listings two pages down! Not sure which country you're in, but in the uk it's only the main eurosport channels (1&2) that cut away from the skating. He really gave it his all. Luck was not on his side. If not for the hole in the ice during the SP, he would have finished much higher. He has done the most rotated quad Axel so far, and he achieved this at his second competition where he did the jump. What a fantastic effort. I'm so proud of him.
After the free program Yuzuru said he gave everything and he couldn't have tried harder than this. https://twitter.com/axelsandwich/status/1491650608251637761?s=20&t=-gJBtk9rcgBES-bTTJFZrA
