Oliver – I don’t want to see a programs that depicts Nancy/Sikes relationship.

I would like to see:
  • Tommy– Who
  • Xanadu
  • The Producers
  • Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
  • Dreamgirls
  • Hairspray
  • Porgy and Bess
  • Anything Goes
  • Sunset Boulevard
  • Wicked
  • Cotton Club
  • Jelly’s Last Jam

I’m sure we’ll see pieces from Cabaret, Chicago, POTO, Hamilton,

Agreed about Oliver but there are other great songs in that musical. Two urchins skating to “You’ve Got to Pick a Picket or Two.” :p

Wicked is hard to skate to, I think. Dreamgirls is basically Motown. And I can just see a number to Springtime for Hitler.

A lot of Kander and Ebb collaborations can work too

The musical interlude in One of the Boys from Woman of the Year
Kiss of the Spiderwoman
How Lucky can you get from Funny Lady
Mein Herr and Wilkommen from Cabaret

This is a bizarre admission but Babes in Toyland was my first musical (actually originally from the early 20th century.) Castle in Spain would make a terrific comic SD.

My Man from Funny Girl.

Lot of Living from Bye Bye Birdie.

Being Alive from Company.

And more than I can think of from Kurt Weill.

Chris and Kana also did an exhibition to "All I Need is the Girl" from Gypsy. That's actually a great number to use.

ETA: Maybe should start a thread about songs/musicals that would work for the SD and after one year, we can send it to every ice dancer so we could increase the chances of not getting a thousand Chicago, POTO, Les Miz, etc. programs.
Send them to Marie-France - she'll be choosing music for a lot of them.

Also I know someone else said the implication based on the rhythms implies a more danceable rhythm, but if I remember correctly, the march is one of the options. And if Marie-France taught us nothing else during the waltz/march season, it was that a march rhythm can be added to about anything. So I don't think all teams will feel compelled to ixnay the dramatic/power ballad stuff. Though hopefully they will stretch for something beyond the oh-so-popular numbers that have been done to death.

I meant more that this far out, without any clarifications, its hard to know what will be allowed or what the ISU will want, and speculating on the likelihood of whether the ISU will impose guidelines that restrict teams to certain kinds of musicals. Will they essentially resurrect the OD for a season? Or will there be a lot of careful wording about programs being reward for being lighthearted and dancey and having energy? Or maybe they'll just let it play out and allow less traditional choices as long as they're well thought out. We don't even have full clarification on the rules for this season yet. Even if restricted to more traditional musicals, I hope that teams will do their research and pick from many great numbers.

Did we know the junior French team of Wagret & Couryas have split? At least it appears they have. They are both listed on Ice Partner Search.

G/P are the risk takers. I would love to see them do something for Sweeney Todd or Xanadu.

Hubbell/Donohue - I would like to do Tommy, Green Day's American Idiot(Blvd of Broken Dreams) or their rock opera 21st Century Breakdown(Know your enemy or 21 Guns)

Little Shop of Horrors. Can't you just picture Piper's Audrey costume? :D

And Paul's Seymour/Rick Moranis get-up.

I remember the Shibs were planning a Mary Poppins-themed SD for the 2012-2013 season before they were told to change it and ended up with their Incantation medley. I think "Step in Time" would make a great SD.

Oh I'd love for a dance team to skate to Mary Poppins!

Mary Poppins ice dance programs:

Gilles & Poirier: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iqu-Abtes0I
Alessandrini & Vaturi: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MSifyY9hUeM
Lanaghan & Razgulajevs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qpma5rqPppo
Marton & Szemko: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qpma5rqPppo
Peal & Peal: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ysq7h3w2JRE (warning--cuteness factor)

There's been a lot of Mary Poppins, especially--I think--since the musical version came out on Broadway. Having said that, Step in Time is a good piece. I really liked Nicolas's version of Bert the year he won silver at Junior Worlds. It was nice to see the Bert character rather than the typical "Jolly Holiday" Mary Poppins focus.

TSL is saying Hawayek & Baker are also heading to Montreal. Another new Japanese team is joining as well.

Is Marie-France going to have 20 teams next year?

OTOH, if Shibs take a break next year, who will be Marina's #1? I was honestly expecting H&B to join Marina's team.

V/M and Robledo/Fenero are done, so that frees up at least two spots. Komatsubara/Koleto are taking up one of those and perhaps Hawayek/Baker the other. Still a total of 17. Anyone else moving to Gadbois?

There are at least four on-ice coaches at Gadbois (Marie-France, Patrice, Romain, Pascal Denis) and off-ice choreographers/coaches to help.

Do Fear/Gibson and Fear/Waddell train full-time in Montreal or do they split their time between there and London? They have Romain and Karen Quinn listed as their coaches.

Marina has Muramoto/Reed, Lorenz/Polizoakis, Lewis/Bye, Tran/Ambrulevicius and Hew-Low/McKernan.

Reed/Ambrulevicius.

Marina & Massimo also had Buckley & Chen at U.S. Nationals. They would be likely to enter Juniors this season. Muller & Dieck also train with her part time.

OTOH, if Shibs take a break next year, who will be Marina's #1? I was honestly expecting H&B to join Marina's team.

Oh, who knows how the summer will shake out? But for now, Muramoto & Reed are her top ranked team behind the Shibs. M&R finished 11th at Worlds right behind Hawayek & Baker.

Do Fear/Gibson and Fear/Waddell train full-time in Montreal or do they split their time between there and London?

A post I read about a week or two ago said the two Fear teams split their time.

Do Marie-France and Patrice ever sleep?

I'm surprised V/M haven't officially retired yet because there's no way they aren't done for good this time.

I thought H/B might head to Marina because Montreal is so crowded but I guess we don't know what the Shibs' future plans are yet. They obviously need to move somewhere. I really hope it works out for them.

A new Mary Poppins?? How can anyone be better than Julie Andrews? Okay I'll try to keep an open mind about this..

No one better than Julie Andrews but the cast list looks great (Emily Blunt, Meryl Streep, Colin Firth, Lin Manuel Miranda, Angela Landsbury, Dick Van Dyke, Julie Walters....)

So I'm hopeful it will be good.

That's in case if rock operas will also be allowed, as officially they are not the same as musicals. At least I've never heard/read someone refer to them as musicals.
