Helpful explanation posted there:

When it comes to Russian domestic events, it’s not ‘Junior’ or ‘Senior’ events but ‘Candidate of Master of Sports’ (more or less the same as Juniors) and then ‘Master of Sports’ (that also include International Class, Honored Master of Sports, and etc).
So technically Abachkina/Drozd can compete at Junior (‘Candidate of Master of Sports) events since Angelique doesn’t have ‘Master of Sports’ rank within Russia.

How are Abachkina/Drozd competing in Juniors? Aren't they both wayyy too old for that?
Anyway, losing to a Junior team overall doesn't bode too well for their pairing...

She outgrew Sviatchenko. I think he decided that he doesn’t want to end up same as Poluyanova/Sopot. He is skating with Labazina, and she retired. The chance of her finding another partner is not great, considering her height.

There really wasn’t that big height difference. Poluyanova/Sopot had the same situation, Sopot was advised to skate with someone more suitable physically and he declined. Then they disappeared because they had no chance together in seniors. While I understand why someone wants to be loyal to their partner, on the other hand the skaters put so much effort and money into skating so I also understand why someone would choose the career rather than sticking to a partner where they had no chance to progress beyond a certain level.

Meant the spots available through RC series.

Other spots are already assigned to GP skaters (if they show up).
In total we have 18 women and men, 15 dance teams and 12 pairs at nationals.
