I think Harry/Meghan will continue to attract a fair amount of attention because they're likable, attractive, comparatively young, and interesting. And if they have kids soon, that will also attract people's interest. The nearest parallel would be Fergie/Andrew in the 80s, and they continued to draw a lot of press attention in the first years of their marriage. Until coverage turned to Charles/Diana's marital problems (as well as Fergie/Andrew's).

Kate/William are determined to shield their kids from publicity. So it will be 10-15 years before George, Charlotte, and Louis start to dominate the royal news. And by that point, both Harry/Meghan and Kate/William will probably be happy to yield the stage.

It's useless to speculate now. I also have the feeling that Harry & Meghan would be happy with less scrutiny. I know I would.

Once Charles is king, Harry and Meghan will be the equivalent of Andrew (and Fergie back in the day) or Anne and their families. Once William is King, Harry will be equivalent to the late Princess Margaret. How many of the posters in this thread even know who her children are? No Googling!

Sure, there's more media attention now, and the British royals will always be popular (they certainly draw more interest in this thread than any of the royal families). But eventually other royals will become more prominent than the Duke and Duchess of Sussex - and I suspect this will suit Harry and Meghan just fine. They'll always be able to pursue the things that matter to them, regardless of where Harry is in the line of succession.

William and Kate are insanely popular. I think they have handled themselves and their lives impeccably well. I remember an interview video when the person asked them what they did for dinner. Kate said a lot of times we have take out. The interviewer then said, How does that work when you pick it up............she said in the nicest way possible Oh someone else does that bit.

Harry is popular for a million other reasons........his boyishness, his going to the war............but he could do those things..........he was not first in line with the throne. Megan is popular as she brings something outside of the normal box: Actress, Bi-racial, she seems like she is loads of fun. And, again, she can be more fancy-free (like Andrew and Fergie.........or princess Margaret (good grief) as she is held to a different standard.

Diana did a wonderful job of shielding her children.
Kate and William are doing the same wonderful job. And, when the kids show up, they appear to be well schooled in what is expected, and for the ages they are quite well behaved.

I love the way Kate releases photos every now and then. I think the children will grow up to be excellent people.

I've heard that Charles wants to reduce the number of tax-supported royals. If this is correct, Harry and Meghan will still be working royals (which increases press coverage), but their kids -- like Princess Anne's -- won't.

Margaret got a lot of coverage in the 60's and 70's.

One huge difference -- William and Harry seem to genuinely and deeply like each other. Charles and Andrew, not much at all.

The Second Earl of Snowden and his sister, Sarah Chatto, if I am not mistaken.

Time will tell I guess. If Harry and Megan have kids, the spotlight may be on them as they may stand out when pictured with other royals.

If Charles becomes king, the interest in the royal family will likely decrease anyway

Do you expect him to die before his mother?

If he becomes king, you don't think people will like to point out what a horrible job they think he is doing? That will sell papers for awhile. And he won't be king very long- do you think interest will rekindle when William is?

Queen and Meghan in first royal visit together in Cheshire:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-merseyside-44471137

I need to see more pictures of Meghan's dress as I have never been a lover of the cape style top part - it seems to limit the arm movements. Hopefully footage will show how she moves in it.

In the pictures they look relaxed and happy together - and I do love the colour of the Queens outfit.

More pictures from the Daily Mail - probably the only thing they do that I like - Royal Pictures:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-5843387/Meghan-Markle-Queen-arrive-Cheshire.html

The article above contains video and the cape style doesn't seem to limit her arm movements and it is a lovely colour and cut - she has such a slender figure and the dress showed that off very well. Unfortunately for Meghan it is a pretty windy day here in the UK and she wore her hair down and it was blowing everywhere and she had to keep taming it down with her hand. Still not much can be done about that - even wearing it up wouldn't have resolved the issue.

Love the Queen's dress! I don't know many who can pull that color off.
Not a fan of Megan's dress. Too much dress and it is too tight when she bends down to greet people. The cape part overwhelms her.
And, it is wrinkled (creased may be a better word). Just looked through a gallery of photos........that drape is not doing her any favors.

Totally loved the photos! Thanks, @Lorac

Since this is the Royalty thread, I decided to post in here rather than start a new thread. Yesterday (June 14th) was New Orleans 300th anniversary (tricentennial).

King Felipe Vl and Queen Letizia of Spain arrived in New Orleans to help celebrate. New Orleans was colonized by Spain from 1763 to 1802.

Today, they're going to visit the St. Louis Cathedral and the Cabildo which is now a museum. According to the article, they'll leave Saturday for San Antonio, Texas to celebrate the tricentennial there, and will leave on Monday to visit with President Trump and Melania.

I don't think even Eugenie & Beatrice have worn a dress that bad as It doesn't even look like it fits right. Yikes.

I feel for the Poor bride, who looked lovely in the Spencer tiara, as no one will remember her as everyone will be talking about the bed sheet Meghan wore

I liked the little fascinator she wore. Not that it looked good with her dress. Of course, nothing could. Ugh!

Liked Meghan’s look on Thursday when she was out and about with HM.

BUT WHAT WAS SHE THINKING HERE?

Harry and Meghan steal the show at Princess Diana's niece's wedding

https://dailym.ai/2MvhaD4

My goodness that was an awful outfit - it looked about 3 sizes too big and she had to hold it up to ensure she could see where she was walking. Of course the article says is was a 'fashion forward' outfit and she looks fabulous. Well I know we say some people look good in a potato sack - well I think Meghan has proven that comment isn't true as she looked downright silly and more like a little girl wearing mommy's dress. The fascinator is lovely - and I wish she'd worn something similar to that when she was out with the Queen on Thursday as that might have helped tame the hair a little. And I really never get why people attempt to walk on grass in sky high skinny heels that are just going to get caught in the soft earth and ruts. I did enjoy how the Duchess of Cornwall took off her shoes and walked on the beach in her stocking feet when she and Prince Charles were visiting Ireland the other day - very practical.

The bride did look lovely and I'm glad it is a Spencer daughter who gets to wear the Spencer tiara to their wedding. Of course we get a couple of pictures of the bride and a zillion of Diana in it

ETA: I though Lady Kitty Spencer looked gorgeous in her dress - totally outshining the Duchess of Sussex on the day.

ETA2: I watched the video and realise Meghan is holding on to the left side because it is a wrap around dress and if she didn't hold it then it would be showing an awful lot of leg.

Oh ouch
There was no redeeming value on that dress.

I find that for the most par her clothes don't fit well...but that was nuts. I wonder what she was thinking.

Why? Maybe there was a bolt of fabric leftover from some cottage bedroom curtains? :shuffle: That is truly an unflattering dress in everyway possible.

What is even more amazing is that it is a Oscar de la Renta from the 2019 line and has a list price of $5490  Never has my flabber been more gasted!! $5490 for that - that is when you realise the rich really are different as I would be hard pushed to pay a fiver in the charity shop for that - and then only to cut it up and make a nice pair of curtains!!

I hate that I’ve slagged off Meghan’s dress sense, I ❤️ her and think she’s gorgeous. But that was :scream:

Heh, she probably looked better than I do right now anyway. (10 years older, loads fatter , wearing PJs) but still....

But it was a dreadful dress and was so unflattering. She is a gorgeous lady and has the body for some amazing dresses - as can be seen from the ones she has worn since her wedding - regardless of the small issues I had with them - the slipping off the shoulder ToC dress and the cape style dress she wore with the Queen - which is more of a personal preference for me. Both dresses were fitted beautifully and the colours were gorgeous. But the latest dress was absolutely fugly - ill fitting and to be perfectly honest a tad dowdy - which as I did like the print and given Meghan's beauty took some doing!!

I was just going to suggest that the dress could have a new life as curtains. There is certainly enough fabric! Hope it wasn't windy out - the dress would have resembled a parachute.
