Helene was one of the 2 pool reporters (along with Nancy Armour, then with AP) who attended Michelle Kwan's test skate at the East West rink in Artesia, CA in late January before she was named to the 2006 Olympic team.

An end of an era indeed.. What an amazing woman she is and what an impact for sports in general she has had.. She will be missed.. May she take the time to heal from her loss and may some of those plans that she and her "husbum" had become reality.

Not only reporters who care about it, but who know enough to be able to accurately write about it. Sadly more and more sports coverage gets thrown to generalists rather than specialists.

Her story about the younger reporter being surprised that women reporters were once banned from locker rooms gives me chills. Anyone who's covering sports should know about that history.
