I have loved watching Deanna Stellato-Dudek skate pairs since I first saw her with her former partner. I love her posture and presentation, and her obvious JOY when she skates. I was so happy to hear that she finally got her release and is able to represent Cananda along with Maxime.

Link to Deanna & previous partner Nathan Bartholomay in one of my favorite Deanna performances - the lift at the end brings me to tears: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gj86HA-RiNE&t=281s

Deanna in the year 2000 as a singles skater - this is her 6.0 performance! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ym68Lnj0xu0&t=116s

I look forward to news and performances as Deanna and Maxime pursue their 2026 Olympic Dream! There is something intriguing about athletes persuing their goals and joy of their sports at ages beyond the "typical." :cheer2: :kickass: :rockstar: :glamor:

4-part article by Simon Drouin of La Presse (March 4, 2024) that machine translates well enough :):

In French or in English? Maxime Deschamps suggests that we try French in order to measure his partner's progress. The Chicago woman's mastery of Tremblay's language is astonishing. She understands most of the exchanges between the skater, the coach and the journalist, and punctuates her responses with sentences in French. His secret: Duolingo , this application for fun language learning.
“I have studied every day since I came here. If I didn't try, I think it would be a lack of respect for Quebecers. »
As proof, she opens the app on her phone, which reveals a “series” of 1712 consecutive days with at least one lesson, which takes us back to June 2019!
Is it any wonder that she approaches each day of training as if she were at the Olympics?

Thank you Sylvia, this puts a balm on my old and in exil Québécois heart. 💕

Having done Duolingo and other apps for years, I feel like they are still poor examples. Every time I learned something off these platforms and then I speak exactly what I learned on the platform native speakers say oh we never talk like that, where did you learn that.

Lol but good on people who have the ambition and want to try

Beverley Smith's article based on their media call yesterday:
“For me, I’m so sick of missing things I land every day, like 100 times in practices,” Stellato-Dudek said. “I’m so sick of missing them exclusively in competition.”
So a new approach for next week: “I just really need to chill out when I’m out there and not over-try,” she said. “And so that’s what I’m going to try and do. I find I do best when I’m not over-trying.”

Phil Hersh's article on Deanna, pairs world champion with Max!
Excerpts:
“Can I get a quote beside the record book, like 40 is the new 20?” Stellato-Dudek joked late Thursday night. "(An age record) is not something that I ever set out to do when I came back to skating, but I knew that if I were to accomplish my dreams it would inevitably occur because I’m the oldest everywhere.
“I hope a lot of athletes stay around a lot longer. I hope it encourages people to not stop before they reach their potential, and I hope it transcends into other areas, not just in sports.”
Stellato-Dudek, who moved to Quebec to train with Deschamps, said after Wednesday’s short program that she is confident she will be eligible to represent Canada at the Games, which have more stringent nationality rules than International Skating Union events like the world championships.
She is already older than any Olympic figure skater since World War II, according to the OlyMADMen.
“If I could talk to my younger self, I think my younger self would think I’m crazy,” said Stellato-Dudek, who wants to celebrate with a Chanel purchase. “She wanted to win the 2006 Olympics, so she would be wondering why I’m going to the 2026 Olympics.”

Further research has confirmed if Deanna Stellato-Dudek and Maxime Deschamps win pairs tonight, she would be oldest woman to win a world title in any discipline. Previous oldest was Ludowika Jakobsson, who won a pairs title for Finland in 1923 at age 38.

Last night was my "March Madness!" I am so happy for her!!! I can't believe she and I are the same age...never did I think when I first started watching skating as an eleven year old in 1994 I would be witnessing someone the same age as me winning the Worlds!!! We went from the "baby ballerinas" in the late 90s/early 2000s to this...I love it!

It's also crazy to think that she and Tara Lipinski are only a year apart in age, but in skating "generation" time it's a much bigger gap...

New interview with Deanna, including quotes from Maxime and from Minerva Fabienne Hase.

“I think my younger self would think I'm crazy,” she continued after she and Deschamps claimed their title in front of a raucous Canadian crowd in Montreal, where they both train – and Maxime grew up.

“I think my younger self wouldn't think much of [me now] at all,” she said, before adding: “She wanted to win the 2006 Olympics, so she would be wondering why I'm going to 2026.”
