I like Shimada, but him becoming the Japanese silver medalist is a damning indictment of the rest of the field today... and a tragically effective advert for Lambiel's snake-oil coaching in the eyes of Japan's skating community, I'm sure.

Big standing ovation for Shoma despite the errors. I guess all the guys were nervous. Shoma probably wins.

Finished way behind music. Time Over was assessed according to Commentator (Honda)
After 3A+2A+2A Shoma got behind the music and he neverr did catch up according to Honda.
Over 100 in TES, so winning is assured.
181.28 291.73 1st.

All right. Well, we made it through.

Shoma gets to go.

After that, things get a bit scary. Felt like Tomono scratched a place or two with that enthusiastic step sequence. Sell it for all it's worth, folks. Even when you've mucked up. You never know how things will fall. I think the ladies at Worlds should keep this in mind, given the craziness in that discipline this season.

Does Uno usually do a 3A+2A+2A? It looked liked something he threw in because he needed the points. He's real competitor that guy.

Rather underwhelming Mens Final, compared with Women last night.
Selection to Senior, Junior Worlds and 4CC will be quite interesting. JSF must be scratching their collective heads right now.
Only secure tickets are
Women: Kaori Sakamoto and Mai Mihara
Men: Shoma Uno
Ice Dance: KanaDai
Pairs: RikuRyu
Jr Women: Mao Shimada
Jr Men: Nozomu Yoshioka
For Women, Will Mone Chiba or Hana Yoshida be considered for Senior assignments? What will Rinka get?
For Men, Sota (GPF Silver) or Shun Sato (GPF 4th) be considered for 4CC?

I just wanted to give a shoutout to Sumitada Moriguchi. He had what looked like it was likely the skate of his life tonight. And if he is the same guy I remember from the short, he had an absolutely outstanding competition all around.

Can’t help but feel the gpf which is so near nationals took a toll on skaters
I think it's just the pressure of Japanese Nationals. A lot more on the line here, and a lot more contenders to face when things don't go perfectly.

I'm glad I was able to watch both of Moriguchi's programs yesterday at least! He was the only man to have no negative GOEs for any jumps on his 5th place FS protocol sheet and landed 8 triples, including two 3As (~2 hours after skating a Senior Pairs FS!). Hopefully he'll get to make his senior international debut in singles in early 2023!
