Thanks to Netflix, Hulu, and websites like Dramafever and Viki, I've been binge watching a lot of Asian dramas mostly from Taiwan, Korea, and Japan (they tend to last 13-22 episodes). Some are utterly ridiculous and I can't watch past the first episodes or so but others are very good. The problem is that they're highly addicting. Anyone else watch it these types of shows?

I've seen Densha Otoko (Train Man), Last Friends, and The Liar Game from Japan. I always mean to watch more of their dramas, but rarely get around to looking them up :)

Does anyone watch The Muppets? I have seen the first 4 episodes. I am hugely disappointed with the lack of screen time for Rowlf. He has only properly been in 1 episode of 4. Half of episode 4 was in his bar and he was only shown in the background for a split second.:dog:

^ ITA. Rowlf is my very favouritest muppet.

However I do still like the show. It's not as consistently LOL funny as I anticipated from that brilliant trailer, but still entertaining enough for me to stick with it.

I've still got three of them DVRd. I just never feel like watching them.

Awesome. I'll check those outs. I mainly asked the question because I would love some recommendations. Not only are the really good ones addicting (even some of the mediocre ones as long as the leads have chemistry and aren't playing irritating characters), but the soundtracks are great as well.

My Asian drama watching got started around this time last year because of a ridiculous Taiwanese one called Fall in Love With Me last year that I admit that I got really into because I liked the chemistry between the leads (Aaron Yan and Tia Li) and how they looked together. I also have a soft spot for it because it's the first one my bf and I watched together and we had a really good time making fun of the ridiculous aspects while really enjoying the better aspects. I've been looking at the back catalogue of what sounds like good ones from various sites. I am currently watching Secret Garden on Netflix right now. The comedy is really funny and sharp, and I love that Hyun Bin plays an unwound lead male as opposed to the idol types or the cool, mean rich guy that shows up so often. I mean he's mean and rich in this one, but he's not typical and his characteristics are played for laughs. Plus his rendition of one of the main songs is pretty dreamy. Ha Ji-Won is really good too. I also just finished Love Keeps Going with Cyndi Wang and the very handsome Mike He, which was actually really good until it seems like the writers were forced to put in more Asian drama cliches and tragedy and put all of that in like the last three episodes. My favorite one that I've watched thus far is In Time With You with Ariel Lin and Bolin Chen. It really downplays the melodrama (so many of these shows play that up) and the characters themselves and the situation are much more realistic and down-to-earth (i.e. believable) than most I've seen. Plus, I think I'm in love with Ariel Lin's naturalistic acting style. It's a shame that it's no longer on Hulu, which is where I watched it in great video quality albeit with commercials. But it's on Viki.

Yay for Rowlf love :D I have just caught up to US pace because I read Rowlf had a scene with Kermit in episode 7 and it was so adorable. Very 'doglike' :)

I am now watching my 'best of the muppet show' DVDs. Can't beat the classics!

Hmm, might be time for another month of Netflix subscription! I was going to hold out 'til there was a new season of either Kimmie Schmidt or Daredevil, but Jessica Jones might be enough for me to make it worthwhile ...

Finally finished Hemlock Grove season 3. I liked it and was not surprised at the Shakepearean ending but it just felt sometimes like they had run out of ideas. A lot of what happened ended quite abruptly and didn't make a lot of sense. Just a few thoughts...

Why would Shelley leave town without even trying to say goodbye to Roman? Upirs are supposed to be strong, hard to kill and able to control minds but Roman seemed to have none of these abilities in season three. Why on these type shows, coffee tables are always made out of glass? The whole Spivak storyline ended kind of abruptly

I'm puzzled. How come Scorpion with a 1.6/5 rating has more viewers than Supergirl with a 1.8/6 rating or Blindspot with a 2.3/7 rating?!

The 1.6/5 for "Scorpion" is the 18-49 demographic. Which means, while it has more over-all viewers, it probably has more "older" viewers over the age of 49 than "Supergirl" and "Blindspot"

"Supergirl" might have less over-all viewers than "Scorpion", but it has more viewers in the 18-49 demo.

"Blindspot" with a 2.3/7 in the 18-49 demo, has a lot of people 18-49 years of age watching.

The advertisers want the 18-49 age demographic. They don't think a 53 year old like me spends enough money.

Older people already own pretty much what they want, they usually just buy new things to replace something which has broken down due to old age. Whereas young people are buying all new stuff once they leave their parent's house...and then upgrade everything they buy as their tastes change. Plus young people are more likely to replace working/useful items so as to look more accomplished or more stylish, whereas older people care less about that and are happy with what they've got. And I think younger people are more into social media and re-posting and re-tweeting about whatever interest them, which helps out advertisers by bringing additional viewers aka buyers to their shows or their websites or whatever. So TV programs that do well with older viewers can get cancelled even when their ratings seem high in comparison to shows that teens and twenty-somethings are really into.

And yet this 58 year old watches two of those shows (and used to watch Scorpion before it became unwatchable).

Please tell me you are being sarcastic.

I'd skip the whole 18-30 demographic because we all have student loans and a huge chunk of those people have either moved back home or never left because the job markets have changed so much and they are still trying to break through. ;) I mean of course that demographic still has money, but I think there needs to be newer ways of looking at these things.

When the new iPhone comes out, do you think the line-ups are full of sixty year-olds instead of 25 year-olds?
Most of us are smart enough to wait a few days or order it online instead of waiting in line. ;)

I agree with @VIETgrlTerifa. I do think once you get into the 65 and up range, that the stereotypes you outlined are more true. It's definitely true of my parent's generation who are now in their 70s and 80s. But this worship of the 18-34 demographic (and discounting of older people) seems to me to be based on ancient history. These days, Baby Boomers (except maybe the absolute oldest ones) are blowing all those stereotypes out of the water. And today's 20 somethings are way more frugal that they used to be, for a variety of reasons. Except with tech. They love their tech.
