If Zagitova doesn't do the Russian cups doesn't that mean no Nationals? Not that exceptions shouldn't be made for the reigning OGM. Too bad Russia is so stacked that there isn't even a small regional event without tough competition!

I also wonder why they didn't make an exception to let Valieva try to qualify for Nationals, like what was the point of inviting her to just senior tests then?

Is that list just the assignments for the confirmed senior team competitors? Presumably there will be others at the different events or it would be a pretty small amount of competitors!

There should be none team members as this will be the pathway to nationals. Maybe not as many as usual since the GP events won't come into play and the cup series will include skaters who do not normally skate in the in-country events.

Gorshkov: the list of participants in the Russian Figure Skating Cup will be expanded
"So far, we were talking only about the athletes of the national team," Gorshkov said. The distribution principles applied only to them. As we originally announced, the Distribution has now been made in accordance with the rules of the International Skating Union (ISU) on the Grand Prix series. Supplements, of course, are possible, they will follow as we receive applications from coaches and athletes."

One more question - is the Grand Prix installment for Russia (assuming that plan goes forward) separate from this?

Yes. It’s annual Russian Cup series events that lead to Russian Cup Final in February

Russian cup is Russian home competition. It is five competitions which serve as the qualifying competitions for the nationals. Something like US have sectionals and regionals. GP is something completely different because it is international competition (even if this year there may not be many international competitors). Marks from Russian cups don’t count towards seasons best and world standing, whereas marks from GP do.

There are some really nice line-ups already (without full roster)
Moscow pairs is awesome with the fight of the 'youngsters'.
Interessting constellations in dance with Khuda/Bazin going vs M/B and S/E one time, the other time vs Z/G and S/S.

Interesting to see how inner-fed-events are building momentum towards nationals in comparison to Grand Prix Series.

Do we know if number of participants in each category remain the same for nationals? (18/18/12/15)

No Mandatory Testing Before Competitions

I was just wondering what this means for competitions like the Russia Cup and Rostelecom...I wonder if things have made a turn for the better in Russia or is it that athletes will be given the vaccine first? Curious.
It would probably be better if they could stay away from the inadequately tested vaccine. No one knows what health risk it may cause, and it would be awful if they damaged their whole national team and have to wait for those from novice to grow up.

From your mouth to Putin's ears.
If athletes feel unsafe can they just pull out or will they be fined?
It's odd that a couple days after the schedules are posted for the Russian Cup series this comes out. Some parents might be wary....we'll see.

That vaccine is not going to be in general use till 2021. It's now going through phase III trials which are meant to be competed by the end of the year. There has been talk of vaccinating medical staff and teachers on a voluntary basis before this, but certainly not athletes.

Okay. Seems sort of risky though to the athletes to not maintain mandatory testing before competitions. Or maybe they just have to turn up with the test results themselves.

All the best with that.

From my understanding juniors (14+) can compete at senor cups to qualify for both senior and junior nationals. However, if they do not qualify for senior nationals they will not qualify for junior nationals. It's a risk for sure but what is sport without risk :watch:
It is a risk, but in a way, very smart. Skaters' skills will need to warrant competing at the senior level, thus discouraging those who are prone to winging it, knowing they can afford to fall back to juniors if they falter. This move encourages everyone to approach it seriously, which is a good thing. Not that we have skaters slacking off left and right, but without that safety net, it becomes very strategic.

August 25th, 8PM Moscow time - Moscow rink will hold another Junior Test Skate for the juniors (and novices about to be juniors) who did not make the official Test Skate list last week. You can see it on youtube.

Some of the participants are: Yablokov, Samodelkina, Tztebinova, Belyavski, Liventzeva and many more.

I wonder if pairs from Mozer’s school will be ready to show themselves.

If there is a full list, and it is posted, i will re-post it with names. By the way the start date is August 25th (not 26th).
Is it? The youtube link says it will start in 26 hours, which would make it 26th August

I corrected the start date to 25th. Check the video link, it shows start time in 2 hrs (it is 19:30 here in California).

Here is the name list and times for groups (it is in Russian). copy the link and put in in the browser.
