Bringing this over for discussion here since we now have video of Kaya's 2nd place FS (last season's music from Gladiator/"Now We Are Free") ^^^ as well as Nemirovsky's 5th place FS ("Kaleidoscope" by Chappell Roan), quoted below:

Thoughts for the US women after the past 2 weeks of competitions?

I think Angela Shao definitely earned her spot with her silver medal and 177 at Asian Open, especially when you consider she was also top 10 at junior worlds and junior national champion.

I assume Jurka will get one due to her second place finish at junior cup.

I’m not sure after that, although Tiernan made a very strong case for herself today.

Kaya moved up from 8th in the SP 57.82 (2A, 3Fe+3T fall, 3Lz, L4 on 2 spins & footwork) to 2nd in the FS today. How much importance should be given to skating cleanly in the SP?

In the past the USFS has guaranteed the top 2 from Jr Cup a JGP assignment. I would anticipate that Jurka will be assigned to Ankara when those assignments are released in a couple weeks.

Emilia Nemirovsky is just an amazing total package skater at her level. Her jumps have Gracie Gold power and excellent technique. Eye popping when she hits them. Her spins are really good. She has lovely artistry and expression. She should be winning everything in U.S. juniors, but at this stage is prone to one or two mistakes that seem like nerves and not technique. Like her second lutz in the Cranberry free. She has one of the best lutz jumps in the business normally. I’m really hoping she can learn to compete and skate clean. And that USFS keeps giving her opportunities. Hopefully her team has her working with a sports psychologist to help. Maybe an Alysa Liu mentorship She is so talented. Love watching her.

^^^ I came across Gasparotto's FS video last night there as well! It looks to me like she is controlling her BIG jumps better/landing more consistently in competition now - she must be excited about her upcoming CS debut in Japan!

I've seen her skate and her jumps are ginormous. She checks out of her 3Lz midair... I have not seen anything quite like it. She has room for quads and of course, she will probably add her 3A once she gains consistency. However, I do think her biggest weaknesses are artistry, spins, and step sequences. Given how important levels will become in this quad, if she wants to score in the 190-200, consistency and levels will be key. Her team seems to understand that as her levels and GOEs have improved markedly since last season. I'm cautiously optimistic and excited for her future (you never know because the ice is slippery).

I agree, the wrap on the toe jumps is quite noticeable. Her triple Axel is a beauty and she lands it consistently during practices. I wonder when/if she'll add it. Right now, she's not optimizing her layout probably because they're focusing on other aspects of her skating and ensuring that she is consistent. I think a 3Lz+3T, 3F, 3S, 3F+2A+2A, 3Lz, and 3Lo would be an incredible step forward for her next season. Unfortunately, the 3S is not her friend and she has not attempted one in competition in years.

Jessica Jurka has been on a couple of the freestyles I’ve skated this summer in the Denver metro. Her jumps are really looking good. Second mark still needs work, but overall she is looking stronger than last year. Glad she got a JGP assignment.

Probably unlikely Annika Chao will get a second JGP after her finish out of the top 10 in China. Too bad. She’s such a charming, enjoyable and warm skater. Her spins are among my favorite of any junior or senior. Stunningly beautiful. I wonder if she would be better off to switch her jump technique away from the arms overhead. She seems to have some issues snapping up into the jumps fast enough to get full rotations. With her height and long limbs, triple jumping is extra difficult. Is she skating senior at U.S. Nationals?

12th place, in this field, behind a random CZE skater, is rather disastrous. She has lovely qualities, but I don't think her coaching team is doing her any favors. She seems to excel domestically but struggle on the international stage.

I am also bitter the AIN girls are back. Sigh.

This summer has brought another challenge—a growth spurt.
“I’ve grown a bit since Junior Worlds,” Shao admitted, “so it’s kind of hard to keep the consistency.”
The growth spurt has required some technical adjustments, but Shao also sees an opportunity to develop her skating in new ways.
“I noticed that I need to jump higher to get better quality jumps compared to before,” she explained. “But I’ve also noticed I have the potential to be smoother and more elegant with my skating by elongating my lines.”
Asked what she has emphasized in training this summer, Shao doesn’t hesitate: “I need to skate faster and really push into my jumps,” she said.
The skater is also working toward adding a triple Axel.
“I’m in the process of it,” she said, adding that she uses a jump harness. “It’s getting better. I’m still working on it.”

Shao hopes to qualify and compete as a senior at the 2027 U.S. Figure Skating Championships, but she isn’t setting specific score goals just yet.
“I’m waiting to see how it plays out a little bit more because I’m getting back into it,” she said. “I needed to get my consistency back up. A season is a whole process. It’s not just one competition that makes up a season.” [...]

I was looking forward to seeing perhaps a Lady Gaga program from Alysa, but best of luck to her this year!
