Ummm . . . Christmas?? - in most of the countries that compete in international FS. This is not a big-$$ professional sport - most of the people who put on the competitions (including judges) are volunteers.
I was being mostly facetious. However, I do think the ISU competition schedule could be greatly improved, but admittedly that's off topic, although probably not as off topic as whatever a Kate Chopin is.

For anyone interested, I posted a Starr Andrews article link in her fan thread earlier today: https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/th...andrews-fan-thread.102874/page-3#post-6711636
An excerpt:
At 23, Andrews is a veteran competitor — this will be her eighth year in the senior division. “I’m looking forward to competing because I’ve had some good competitions this year and some not good competitions,” she said. “I have been doing things differently this season … I’ve been working on my Lutz jump as well as consistency, cardio, Pilates, working with a trainer. I’m looking forward to competing and showing what I’ve been doing because I’ve been putting the work in.”

On the most recent TSL this week, DL dropped an aside that it was an Achilles injury. He didn't elaborate, just mentioned her Achilles tendon.
Which means that someone said and he doesn’t really know but she’s never been one not to spread gossip. I love the deafingly silent comment a.k.a. No one’s giving me any gossip. If she’s sick, or if she’s injured, we and Dave are not on the need to know list. We have no real role in this.

Nah, Dave usually has good info about the SCofNY skaters like Ava, Lindsay, Kirk, etc. Even the ones that train elsewhere, he's been known to drop reliable news.

He does NOT, however, have good contacts in Boston, Philly or DC and even jealous rink parents from those other areas in the Northeast steer clear of him. His network of gossipy rink parents is more robust the further out from the Acela corridor you go, lol.

Given Dave lives in New York and skates (skated?) at a few of their rinks I'd assume any info he has on their skaters is accurate unless proven otherwise. Honestly it's probably his most accurate info beyond the stuff he hears from Meagan Duhamel.

I do feel it's gross for him to share the exact nature of the injury.

Might even be a HIPAA violation, come to think of it. Unless Ava gave him permission.

I always thought Hipaa is a strange law. Doctors cannot say anything about even an appt, but my neighbors can spread details of my medical problems throughout the neighborhood.

How do your neighbors know your medical problems. If your doctor told them file a compliant. if you told someone... well that's your fault. HIPAA can't protect us from everything

In a condo complex the whisper campaign spread news fast. Last year there was a rumor about miscarriage.

This is hypothetical, anyway. There are other scenarios where the doctors can’t say but other people can.

Gossiping about somebody's possible miscarriage is really really crass.
Be that as it may, and mind jlai was just providing a hypothetical example of how a whisper campaign works, I've seen & heard far worse from really petty, jealous people who are worried/concerned their standing in the social pecking order may be endangered. I once knew someone who majored in vicious whisper campaigns in order to promote her own kids.

It’s interesting that people on here seem to think that gossiping about neighbor’s health conditions is potentially rude and that Dave’s gossip about a health condition is potentially a HIPAA violation.

How long have you all been on the board? I’ve seen more gossip skaters health conditions on here than I can believe. And there’s a very strong sense of entitlement as if we are entitled to know what the condition of a skater is so WE can judge if the skater should be allowed to go to world Olympics, etc. Kind of a double standard isn’t it? maybe not from individuals on here But as a collective group

No, we aren’t entitled to know what’s wrong with Ava or any other skater who may or may not have an injury or illness. If they choose to make the information public, that’s their decision. If they choose not to, we should respect their decision.

For all we know, Ava or her family gave the info to Dave & told him he could reveal that much to the public through TSL.

I know, rather doubtful, but it is a possibility.

It’s natural for fans of a skater or any professional athlete to want to have an idea of the extent of the athlete’s injury. Saying someone requires surgery for an ACL injury is a bit different than saying someone had a miscarriage or has syphilis or something else irrelevant to their skating. Elite skaters are semi-public figures. If people at the rink know, I don’t see anything egregiously wrong with telling others in a matter-of-fact way, provided that there wasn’t an expressed desire to keep things secret.

I’m wishing Ziegler all the best. She’s a breath of fresh air and I will miss her at Nationals.

If I were an an athlete I would worry most about my birthdate being public information instead of pii. I always wonder about how they feel about this. It is not even like they are celebrities. Many arent

Very doubtful, IMO.
If a skater truly wanted to make the public aware of something, it would be easy for the skater to post directly on their own Instastory (or other social media) something like, "Wish I could skate at Nats, but I had to withdraw because of Reason XYZ :( Thanks for everyone's support"

And if a skater truly had authorized Dave to share something, he could/should say, "Skater ABC told me it's OK to pass along Reason XYZ." Does he ever allude to having a skater's permission?
