I’m hoping the Elyce Lin-Gracey hype machine dies down after her GP results. To me, she still skates like a good, but run of the mill, junior with untrustworthy Tammy technique and an underwhelming free skate that goes nowhere. I’m not convinced she (or Everhardt for that matter) are the next big thing that some are making them out to be.

I also think people have gotten a bit too excited about Alysa Lu’s comeback. She has lots of work to do on jump rotations and stamina.
First of all Elyce only just went to Tammy as a coach in 2023 so her jump technique is not Tammy's which is why she suffers way less underroted jumps then the normal US lady and that underwhelming free skate scored over 140 points at Nebelhorn. Yes she lets the nerves affect her and she needs to get better at competing but she handily beat some of these skaters who finished ahead of her Skate Canada. So no she is not run of the mill.

USFS' 3-minute Amber video (filmed at Champs Camp, presumably), uploaded yesterday - "Hear Amber Glenn talk about her 2024 U.S. Championships win and how she's approaching this upcoming season.": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4S86r4UIITI

On Her Mark podcast:
After some major ups and downs last season, skater Amber Glenn celebrated a major victory as 2024 US Champion! While standing at the top of the podium Amber became the first openly queer woman to win do so. She's also made history at the 6th American woman to land the triple axel (woah!). And while celebrating the highs in her career Amber has also been transparent about the lows, sharing her struggles with mental health and advocating and resources. Amber's honest, talent & passionate personality draws in audiences on and off the ice! Today we dive in to: What it was like winning the 2024 US Skating Championship after a tough season; Value of mental training for sport, especially skaters; Responsibility and honor to be a role model for young athletes.

… Before my skate I watched my SP performance from Lombardia Trophy to go through what I have to do, it put me in a good mindset.
I applied so much mentally and I hoped I knew so much of the stuff that I know now much earlier.
Today during the practice I fell on my Axel, what usually never happens. It is my most consistent jump at this point. But I managed to be kind to myself and didn’t let it get to me.
This feel like the first time I am going into an event as one of the favorites, that’s new for me and it made me pretty nervous.
This program definitely helps me to feel strong and powerful. I skated right after Mai Mihara who I admire so much and who is such a beautiful skater. Back in the days this made me feel nervous and insecure but now I am having the confidence to just do my own thing.”
… But it was so cool and a lot of fun. I enjoyed every moment of my performance today.
”Even though she only got called up for this event two weeks she was prepared to get called up, so she felt ready.
She followed the last two GPs and was cheering especially on her teammates Isabeau and Elyce.

Quoting Karen here because it’s more about spots and less about GP France

We still have yet to see Lindsay debut, but right now, I think Sarah's really putting herself STRONGLY into consideration for a Worlds spot. Her scores between her two Challengers and her first GP are in that 196-202 range that is, in all likelihood, going to finish somewhere between 6th & 9th. That's just where we need her to finish if we want to ensure 3 spots next year.
Agreed, Everhardt is looking good for the third spot for now. Being reliable is a big asset.

At this point, I think Tennell would be her biggest challenger, but she may also have to contend with calling at nationals, which could give her less of an advantage over artistic underrotaters.

GOLD for Amber! (despite being 3rd in FS today):
… I had a lot of emotions and somehow felt really tired going into today.
I made a lot of small mistakes today, that was due to fatigue and self-doubt.
I somehow have this thing that I sometimes doubt myself and can’t believe that “this is really me, I am then like: no, this can’t be me, this isn’t happening.
”I was very nervous but the crowd had great energy and that helped me through it today.

4th in both segments for Sarah in her GP debut - 5th overall!

Alysa still has almost three months to fully get back her endurance. I think she's the favorite for the third spot, even though I don't think MacArthur Park is a good vehicle for her style.

I didn't specify who I thought were locks for the other two spots - though I'll say after today with Amber, I think she's doing what she needs to do to put herself in control of her destiny.

I don't think Isabeau, Bradie or Alysa have a leg up on Sarah right now. All three are prone to rotation calls.

Isabeau does have a PCS advantage, especially as reigning World Silver. Alysa has potential to get her PCS into the 33.5/67 range.

Isabeau has a big leg up on everyone on BOW right now, though.
She has an advantage. We'll see if she can maintain it. Here's the USFS' ISU Championships Selection Pool table they're using to determine who goes into the selection pool for Worlds & 4CCs (X = assigned Int'l). Note, I've left out the skaters who are ONLY junior age-eligible from this table as we're talking about senior Worlds at the moment. If someone wants me to share the table for the junior age-eligible women to know where we're sitting with regards to the Jr Worlds selection pool, let me know!

I think usfs will and should send one seasoned competitor to worlds even if that skater is prone to rotation/caller issues. Which means one of Brandie Alysa and now perhaps Levito. They are known to do decent shorts for one

Should Alysa have 5 in the previous season? The 2025 Worlds selection document says that for Previous Olympics/World Championships, 4-8 placements receive 5 points, and Alysa was 6th in 2022.

No. The "previous" is JUST for the 2024 results. There is a link to the sample Excel data proposal form at the end of the document - https://usfigureskating-my.sharepoi...ZKliF__bwBEV4BDnarhuYAqLwU6AYPcpMuMg?e=nNXIc5

I hid the "Previous" tables when I copied & pasted over the table to save room, but the headers for those columns that calculates the "Previous Year Final Number" all state 2024 - Worlds, 4CCs, Jr Worlds, Nats.

Here's the header for those -
2024 Worlds 12024 Worlds 2 or 32024 Worlds 4,5,6,7,82024 Four Continents 1,2,32024 Four Continents 4,52024 Junior Worlds 1,2,32024 U.S. Champs 12024 U.S. Champs 2, 3Prev Yr Final Number

Here's the actual formula that calculates the Prev Yr Final # -

=(IF(R5="Yes",12,0))+(IF(S5="yes",10,0))+(IF(T5="yes",5,0))+(IF(U5="yes",6,0))+(IF(V5="yes",3,0))+(IF(W5="yes",8,0))+(IF(X5="yes",4,0))+(IF(Y5="yes",2,0))

R5 = 2024 Worlds 1
S5 = 2024 Worlds 2 or 3
T5 = 2024 Worlds 4,5,6,7,8
U5 = 2024 4CCs 1,2,3
V5 = 2024 4CCs 4,5
W5 = 2024 Jr Worlds 1,2,3
X5 = 2024 US Champs 1
Y5 = 2024 US Champs 2,3

Isabeau has a huge advantage over Sarah in terms of experience and expression. She would have to bomb her next GP and Nats to be left off the team, and we know she’s a cool competitor.

I think Alysa has an advantage over Sarah because judges and audiences don’t use her programs for time to plan that night’s dinner, but that just my opinion.

Yes, but especially when it comes to the "next big thing," you know the USFS always goes all in.
I most recenctly remember all the :drama: over USFS embracing a not very artistic but consistent jumper Bradie Tennell back in 17-18 season pretty clearly.

USFSA certainly didn’t go out of their way to do Sarah any favors last year. Maybe now that Illia is worked champ and pretty legit super star, her coaches can finally start to develop the political pull of Tammy Gambill. :lol:

Japan's depth in Women's Singles is nuts at the moment. Making the 2025 world team is going to be a bloodbath.

But it's nice to know Team USA has a strong selection of women to consider for the World Team qualification. Especially with two skaters that already have World medals in the bank.

I also love that Sarah Everhardt (who reminds me so much of another Sarah it's uncanny) chose selections from Riverdance (like Bradie with LOTD) for her short. So you really sense she has made Boston her mission with that choice.

And had Shae-Lynn Bourne do the choreo. :)

@Karen-W Where did you get the above table from? Is it copied directly from USFS website or did you put it together? I'm curious about where the info on who has the ISU score min comes from.
