Just curious if you gave this benefit of the doubt to Brett Kavanaugh?

I had a "let's hear both sides" attitude. I knew several Brett Kavanaughs in school. I know the type. So I wanted to hear his response. His response, to me, was one of an entitled bad boy. When I saw Dr. Ford's testimony, a woman who really had NOTHING to gain by coming forward, and his flippant attitude, and also having been raped as a teen, Dr. Ford's testimony rang true to me like a fire alarm bell. It was a huge trigger, and even typing right now I'm still reacting to her words. I saw authenticity in her testimony. In Brett's whining, sarcastic testimony I did not.

I am trying to understand how the RW thinks taking down "Grandpa Joe" as a creep, when their "savior" is on tape saying he can't help himself when he sees a beautiful woman and just reflexively kisses her, and later said he just grabs them by the pussy. That over 20 women have come forward saying Trump sexually assaulted them or made unwanted advances. A woman says that she was raped by Trump when she was THIRTEEN. And yet, the RW thinks they can smear Grandpa Joe for whatever they're trying this time. Sounds to me like Russia is already infiltrating and trying to influence this next election with their Russiabots, right Demetri?

You can't be serious. It's obvious the progressive Democrats want Joe Biden out and have unleashed the Creepy Joe Biden narrative. He's ahead in the polls even though he hasn't announced yet, and even worse, he's an old white man. They can't have that. They want him cut off at the knees asap.

The Creepy Joe Biden narrative has existed for years. His behaviour is well known. It's still inappropriate to touch someone without permission - it's not difficult - just ask, and respect the answer.

Just saying, but a lot of people from the progressive wing of the party are big supporters of that old, white guy Bernie Sanders. And so their problem with Joe, irrespective of his touchy feely propensities, is not that he is white and old, but that he is not Bernie.

I haven't been reading all the pre-race for the 2020 POTUS thread, but I figured this is where the Joe Biden stuff would be.

When you compare him to all the stuff that came out about trump, this is ridiculous. He's an affectionate man of a different generation. I don't think he was "'sniffing" someone's hair for some nefarious purpose. Remember those skeevy women who had things on their shirts asking trump to grab them? Well, if Joe Biden wanted to hug me or kiss the back of my head, I'd be thrilled. Woo-hoo?

And, just from a bit of something this morning (yeah, I know - I was walking past the t.v.), some woman wrote an op-ed or something that if a male candidate was not sexist or misogynistic, he would drop out of the race and back a woman. I think that's taking things a little far. All men should drop out and back any woman or he's sexist? So if a white man does not drop out and support a black candidate he's a racist? The moron trump started all this white men vs. everybody else on the planet.:wall:

That may have been true in 2016, but for 2020 the progressives want someone younger and not white, preferably female. As long as that person toes, or at least pretends to toe, the socialist line of Green New Deal, Medicare for all, free college tuition, abolish ICE.....

I'm sorry, but sniffing a woman's hair is never ok, period.

A new poll from Morning Consult with nearly 13K registered voters. Their key take away: "Pete Buttigieg’s net favorability has jumped up by 11 points since Morning Consult began tracking in early February – the biggest increase of any candidate". Over 50% reported that they never heard of him, which means he has a potentially high ceiling of support (as he gets out in front of voters more and more). I was super skeptical of his candidacy but I continue to be impressed and was happy to see these numbers. 538 was skeptical of his rising poll numbers, but it looks like they were wrong. https://morningconsult.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Political-Intelligence-4.2.19.pdf

Just as someone should not take my opinion as gospel about what extreme right wing folks think, you should take care whom you get your info from about the opinions of progressives.

At this time, the most popular presidential candidate identifiable as a progressive is Bernie.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news...arris-latest-2020-quinnipiac-poll/3297371002/

The top three with all Democrats are white men, two of whom are old.

I could not find a more recent poll where progressives or "strong liberals" were broken out separately, but in late December, the results for top 3 for progressives were Biden, Bernie, and Beto, in that order, same as for all Democrats.

https://thehill.com/hilltv/what-ame...s-progressive-voters-arent-worried-that-biden

All men. All white. Two old. And young Beto is short on commitment to any policies at this time, as is Biden.

The top issue universally among Dems is, "Can this candidate beat Trump?"

My impression, which may not be correct, not being an expert on right wing politics, is that Republicans would rather run against AOC than against any of the current Democratic presidential field, partially because she is a young, Spanish- speaking, female, person of color, who self identifies as a Democratic Socialist, and so there is something in that mix that quite a few Americans view with negative emotions, ranging from cautious distrust for some to full blown racism and xenophobia for others. Therefore, it would be advantageous to Republicans for her to be the face of the Democratic party in 2020.

And she is very vocal and sound-biteable, not to mention pretty.

A lot of Democrats find a lot to like in some of AOC' s ideas, but we really want someone who can beat Trump.

What I, personally, distrust about her is that she was the only new Representative who didn't manage to get her district office up and running by March.
https://www.theblaze.com/news/joe-scarborough-ocasio-cortez-district-office

I see her as long on visibility and short on constituent services at this time, which for me is not a plus. It is early days yet, and she is very bright, so I have hope she will learn how to get things done before her next run for office.

I watched the Mayor’s interview on Lawrence O’Donnell last night. He gave good answers. I thought they came across as rehearsed (but they all rehearse possible questions and rehearse them). I liked the fact that his answers were detailed. It bothered me some that 1) those were softball questions, except one or two, 2) they were posted on Twitter, so he already knew the questions (unlike a debate or a townhall). It doesn’t mean he gets zero credit for the answers but it is just that I am not bowled over by him.

Since my focus is on winning the 2020 election, I am going to raise some questions.

At first I had thought he looked like 25 years old but last night he looked more like 30 (still shy of the required 35). Is it his young age that is attracting so much love? Because of the surprise factor ? (this could actually help him in the GE).It will make a good movie someday, but can he beat Trump in real life? Do I want another inexperienced President? Obama was considered inexperienced but he had Senate experience. Pete even less (but more than Trump, and he is not evil).

I can’t get it out of my head that the most qualified, highly intelligent woman lost the election (to the least qualified candidate). The country was not ready for a woman president. What makes you believe they are ready for a gay president?
Or - May be some of them (not on fsu) just see a young white man, and they just trust him, compared to a woman candidate?

I think that after 2016 the country is better prepared for a woman president, but I am not sure about a gay president.
I am not sure that all democrats are ready for it. Will that hurt him in the GE?

Don’t get me wrong. Diversity is very important - all forms of it, but at This time, winning the 2020 election is more important than anything else. Once we have the right leadership, we can make progress in other areas. Lose this election and I may just pack up for another country. It has been unbearable already, for me at least.

I don't have a good feel right now about who will be the strongest candidate against Trump, so I am not crowning anyone yet. Also overhyping someone (whether in figure skating or elsewhere) usually works against it, for me. I would rather wait another 6-9 months and watch the candidates before settling on one or two to support (although I have already eliminated some because I have seen them for years).
I cannot help admiring a few right now.

I would love to see Trump lose the election to a woman. Any real democrat that wins is fine with me, but I think it will hurt Trump more to lose to a woman. It could be poetic justice.

The country was not "not ready for a woman president". The country didn't want to elect a corrupt crook woman president.

If it is so unbearable in this country, maybe you would be happy somewhere else. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

So they elected a incompetent, corrupt, racist, misogynist male crook for president instead. At least Hilary wasn't incompetent, a racist or a misogynist.

Who said he was too busy campaiging to be aware of the sexual harrassment that was going on in his campaign!

I'm not sure if they weren't ready for a female President. A part of the country certainly wasn't. But they might have been without everything else that was going.
As far as a homosexual President is concerned... He is a white male, so he's got that going for him. He's 37, by the way :)

The country didn't want to elect a corrupt crook woman president.

Yes, and the smartest one, too, because after all those investigations, there still is no evidence of a crime. Or maybe she just has the whole of law enforcement and Republicans in Congress in her pocket. (Out of curiosity, how come that when a report that states "does not exonerate the President" is published, it is considered to be exonerating Trump but when numerous investigations into the Clintons don't find a single thing, she's still guilty?)

Hillary was not “corrupt, crook”. You are using the words of Trump. So I know what kind of person you adore.

Trump has already destroyed what our country was. Yes, it is unbearable to me. I guess you love this racist corrupt, incompetent liar and a whole lot of other disgusting things. As far as I moving to another country (if he gets re-elected) it is none of your business.

Biden is being slammed for inappropriate behavior. Why is Bernie Sanders getting a free pass? (And I need not mention the orange one).

They elected a corrupt crook male president, so clearly the important thing was Trump was male, even as you present the case.

(And btw, Hillary was not a corrupt crook. If she were, with all those investigations, she would have been charged with something. And she wasn't.)

I too watched the Mayor’s interview on Lawrence O’Donnell last night, and agree with your thoughts. As for Hillary, I voted for her in 2016 not because she's was a woman, but because she was the most qualified. That being said, it was obvious many people outside our FSU bubble hated her and Obama. She was actually a 3rd term Obama candidate. She lost to the least qualified candidate ever, should tell the Dems something this time around.

That you would post this just shows what kind of moral vacuum most Republicans now reside in. Can you remind me how many of the people who worked on the current President’s election campaign have been indicted/arrested?
To be fair, there was no special counsel appointed with all the Hillary drama unlike Trump. One can argue folks like Lisa Page, Peter, McCabe, Comey, Weiner (was in jail), etc were removed or fired from their posts related to their jobs.

To put Trump and Biden on the same level is absurd, but I suspect there are more politicians on both sides like Trump than we want to admit.
On FB, there is a meme of Joe Biden pictured hugging about six different men, including President Obama, of course. He appears to be an equal opportunity hugger.

And a bunch of pictures in a meme of one of his accusers hugging, standing very close to or touching quite a few men. Some of the comments say she is a Bernie supporter. Hey, can we say "witch hunt" (for real) now?

Did he sniff any of the men's hair? Trump is gross, so is Biden. Let's not be hypocrites.

Trump is said to have raped his second wife while married to her. There are several assault allegations against him. He reportedly went into the dressing-room at a teenage beauty peagant. Whatever Biden did or did not do, he and Trump are nowhere near the same league and Trump is far, far more than gross.

No one here is saying Trump isn't all those things you have mentioned. Biden's sniffing of women's hair has nothing to do with Trump, it's simply gross and creepy. I'm not sure what pleasure he gets out of it. Since when has sniffing women's hair behind their back (women we don't know) part of showing affection?! It's so inappropriate, regardless what we think of Trump. And yes, Trump is beyond gross, at least what the media has shown of him anyway.

Correction: it was his first wife, Ivana

I don't even know the details of the incident, but maybe he was just breathing, not deliberately "sniffing" someone's hair. The moron "sniffs" all the time when he's talking.

it was his first wife, Ivana
Didn't he also want her to have an abortion when she got pregnant? In hindsight, that would have been a good idea.
