I had a "let's hear both sides" attitude. I knew several Brett Kavanaughs in school. I know the type. So I wanted to hear his response. His response, to me, was one of an entitled bad boy. When I saw Dr. Ford's testimony, a woman who really had NOTHING to gain by coming forward, and his flippant attitude, and also having been raped as a teen, Dr. Ford's testimony rang true to me like a fire alarm bell. It was a huge trigger, and even typing right now I'm still reacting to her words. I saw authenticity in her testimony. In Brett's whining, sarcastic testimony I did not.

I am trying to understand how the RW thinks taking down "Grandpa Joe" as a creep, when their "savior" is on tape saying he can't help himself when he sees a beautiful woman and just reflexively kisses her, and later said he just grabs them by the pussy. That over 20 women have come forward saying Trump sexually assaulted them or made unwanted advances. A woman says that she was raped by Trump when she was THIRTEEN. And yet, the RW thinks they can smear Grandpa Joe for whatever they're trying this time. Their key take away: "Pete Buttigieg’s net favorability has jumped up by 11 points since Morning Consult began tracking in early February – the biggest increase of any candidate". Over 50% reported that they never heard of him, which means he has a potentially high ceiling of support (as he gets out in front of voters more and more). The top three with all Democrats are white men, two of whom are old.

I could not find a more recent poll where progressives or "strong liberals" were broken out separately, but in late December, the results for top 3 for progressives were Biden, Bernie, and Beto, in that order, same as for all Democrats.

The top issue universally among Dems is, "Can this candidate beat Trump?"

My impression, which may not be correct, not being an expert on right wing politics, is that Republicans would rather run against AOC than against any of the current Democratic presidential field, partially because she is a young, Spanish- speaking, female, person of color, who self identifies as a Democratic Socialist, and so there is something in that mix that quite a few Americans view with negative emotions, ranging from cautious distrust for some to full blown racism and xenophobia for others. Therefore, it would be advantageous to Republicans for her to be the face of the Democratic party in 2020.

And she is very vocal and sound-biteable, not to mention pretty.

A lot of Democrats find a lot to like in some of AOC' s ideas, but we really want someone who can beat Trump.

What I, personally, distrust about her is that she was the only new Representative who didn't manage to get her district office up and running by March.

I see her as long on visibility and short on constituent services at this time, which for me is not a plus. It is early days yet, and she is very bright, so I have hope she will learn how to get things done before her next run for office.

I watched the Mayor’s interview on Lawrence O’Donnell last night. He gave good answers. I thought they came across as rehearsed (but they all rehearse possible questions and rehearse them). I liked the fact that his answers were detailed. It bothered me some that 1) those were softball questions, except one or two, 2) they were posted on Twitter, so he already knew the questions (unlike a debate or a townhall). It doesn’t mean he gets zero credit for the answers but it is just that I am not bowled over by him.

Since my focus is on winning the 2020 election, I am going to raise some questions.

At first I had thought he looked like 25 years old but last night he looked more like 30 (still shy of the required 35). Is it his young age that is attracting so much love? Because of the surprise factor ? (this could actually help him in the GE).It will make a good movie someday, but can he beat Trump in real life? Do I want another inexperienced President? Obama was considered inexperienced but he had Senate experience. Pete even less (but more than Trump, and he is not evil).

I can’t get it out of my head that the most qualified, highly intelligent woman lost the election (to the least qualified candidate). The country was not ready for a woman president. What makes you believe they are ready for a gay president?

Don’t get me wrong. Diversity is very important - all forms of it, but at This time, winning the 2020 election is more important than anything else. Once we have the right leadership, we can make progress in other areas. Lose this election and I may just pack up for another country. It has been unbearable already, for me at least.

I don't have a good feel right now about who will be the strongest candidate against Trump, so I am not crowning anyone yet. Also overhyping someone (whether in figure skating or elsewhere) usually works against it, for me. I would rather wait another 6-9 months and watch the candidates before settling on one or two to support (although I have already eliminated some because I have seen them for years).
I cannot help admiring a few right now.

I would love to see Trump lose the election to a woman. Any real democrat that wins is fine with me, but I think it will hurt Trump more to lose to a woman. It could be poetic justice.

I too watched the Mayor’s interview on Lawrence O’Donnell last night, and agree with your thoughts. As for Hillary, I voted for her in 2016 not because she's was a woman, but because she was the most qualified. That being said, it was obvious many people outside our FSU bubble hated her and Obama. She was actually a 3rd term Obama candidate. She lost to the least qualified candidate ever, should tell the Dems something this time around.

No one here is saying Trump isn't all those things you have mentioned. Biden's sniffing of women's hair has nothing to do with Trump, it's simply gross and creepy.
