The Dance Hall 14: Waltz Tango Foxtrot

It will be showy and fun. But on another note, why invite comparison to Virtue/Moir? Even at the last Olympics a few months ago, their free dance went viral again. I feel a bit like this about C/P’s Manon FD, although I know most people won’t catch that V/M link.
cpom can never escape v/m comparisons because of the scott connection lol so i just don't think that should ever enter into their thinking because it will just be an impossible task

Out of curiosity, what is the V/M link to Manon outside of Scott's coaching?

I also doubt the use of a Moulin Rouge: The Musical piece will invite many to think of V/M, who used completely different pieces from the film soundtrack.

Some of the choreography by David Wilson for Virtue Moir’s Moulin Rouge program was based on the Manon ballet, most notably the ending, before they changed it after the GP Final. The plot of Manon is similar to Moulin Rouge. I think it has the potential to be an interesting FD for C/P. But I did think first Carmen, now Manon…..

Agree the music cuts in F/G will be different from V/M, so should have a different feel.

Moulin Rouge was a warhorse before V/M. As iconic as their version is there are so many musical pieces that they didn't use and you can come up with many different programs that aren't reminiscent of V/M at all.

The story of Manon is not that similar to Moulin Rouge, and V/M are not the only team who have used some of Manon for inspiration, P/C did as well. It's a great ballet with a lot of choreography to choose from and a lot of music as well, this is just silly.

Marianela Nunez is a goddess. Carreira has great taste in ballerinas.
Marianela is exquisite. I follow her on Instagram, so imagine my surprise when I started noticing Christina liking her posts a few years ago. I’m sure she’s been a source of inspiration for them. And I love that they’ve gone for music I don’t remember ever seeing used in ice dance before, especially something they so clearly connect with. Yes, Scott is their coach, but, as with Perfume, it feels very organic to their sensibilities and doesn't warrant bringing the VM connection.

Guesses for Orihara/Pirinen’s RD music?

Gisele, maybe?

It’s likely hard to escape v/m comparisons when regularly wearing Tessa’s dresses and using music that they also used. More likely it’s an intentional comparison which might not be the best idea, but that’s a personal opinion.

idk if i could wear my idol's dresses for pre-season stuff I'd do it too lol. Christina very freely passes around her old dresses (a bunch of the iamo girlies have worn them so far this season), so I think getting a Tessa dress as a temporary loaner is just probably a fun perk of having Scott as a coach really.

I think Christina has worn two of her dresses? And always only when her costume wasn't ready yet. All of the women at IAMO have borrowed her dresses over the years.

They skated to Carmen. A warhorse. Which they have wanted to skate to since they were juniors. And which tens of other teams have skated to over the years.

Its a pretty cynical read to assume they want to compared to VM, when in interviews they've spoken about wanting to make their own mark.

To be fair, Alyssa Robinson has competed this season in one of Tessa's old dresses, and Christina will almost certainly be wearing something else by the time their Challenger series begins.

In the past 15+ years I've seen teams get V/M comparisons over things like hair color, ballet training, nationality, or use of music that V/M (and not V/M exclusively) have also skated to, so for me, I feel as though fans project way more into it than the skaters themselves are thinking about (and I've usually found these comparisons to be extremely shallow). C/P are in a somewhat special case given their direct connection to V/M and Scott on a routine basis, but they're still very much their own entity.

Guesses for Orihara/Pirinen’s RD music?
Voices of Spring (Johann Strauss II)? Although they may have chosen something from a Finnish composer, like Sibelius' Valse Triste. (Although the Sibelius is darker.)

Of all of the Tessa Virtue likenesses, I thought that Fabbri moved quite a bit like Virtue in her latest partnership.

These dresses are very expensive, and not all skaters can afford them, especially making multiple ones per season or having them ready already at the start of the season.
Christian has worn two of Tessa's dresses, but we've seen many of the Ilderton Club/IAMO teams use V/M's costumes since they both stated they chose to give away some of the old costumes to the younger teams.
And Christina herself is sharing her own dresses - in the recent Quebec Summer Championships, both Alicia Fabbri and Alyssa Robinson wore some of Christina's recent dresses.
Personally, I think it's wonderful that they are all willing to share the wealth as they do.

Once when Jean-Luc Baker was commentating for the ISU -- maybe when he was doing practices? -- he said that he and Hawayek would have two sets of identical* costumes, one which they'd wear for the first half of the season, which would then be used for practices in the second half of the season, and another new one for the competitions in the second half. From that I'd guess that this isn't unusual for elite skaters.

*I'd also guess that the second set would have adjustments to make them more comfortable/useful.

For skaters for whom this isn't feasible or the best use of their money, using costumes that others wore could be a first-half season strategy, not just that their "real" costumes aren't ready. It would also make sense for skaters/teams who are trying to get on the schedule for one of the big designers who might not have time for them earlier.

Spot on. Usually, that’s how fans of other teams read it... Now, if you want to compare Christina/Caroline to V/M, fine by me. 😂
But I actually think it’s lovely that they share dresses and seem to have such a sense of community at IAMO. And I find it really sweet that Tessa is willing to lend some of her iconic dresses to different teams, not just CPom (do all invite those comparisons?).
That’s why I was a little puzzled when Green/Parsons — one of my favourite teams aside from CPom — told Jackie Wong they’d been hoping to skate their RD at the Sizzler, but their costumes weren’t ready yet. I was really looking forward to seeing them, and at this point in the season hardly anyone is actually wearing their competition costumes anyway. Couldn’t Tanith have found something in her closet to lend Caroline?

Thank you. I really liked the Italian pair. I hope he gets stronger though. They've great potential. I haven't watched Rika and partner yet. Bye.

According to an interview at Champs Camp, Vadym sustained his injury trying a new choreo jump 😔
"Kolesnik did not skate in the Sizzler, as he is recovering from a mild ankle sprain sustained while trying a new choreo jump.
