Aurea Cincon-Debout and Atl Ongay-Perez are listed here as a junior dance team competing at Souvenir Georges-Ethier. It's not clear which country they're competing for (she's Canadian, he's British). It's a Canadian competition, but that's not confirmation.

Aurea Cincon-Debout and Atl Ongay-Perez are listed here as a junior dance team competing at Souvenir Georges-Ethier. It's not clear which country they're competing for (she's Canadian, he's British). It's a Canadian competition, but that's not confirmation.

I think they could also chose to skate for Mexico (Atl) or France (Aurea was born there), not sure if Atl has ties to Germany beyond skating with Mia-Lee Mayer last season. I'd be happy if Atl came back to GB, of course, but if they choose Mexico they should have a clear path to the big events. First Gauthier/Ayer, now Cincon-Debout/Ongay-Perez - apparently this off season I've become the "Why not skate for Mexico?" cheerleader.

I really enjoyed both Cincon-Debout with Earl-Jesse Celestino and Ongay-Perez with Ashlie Slatter ( Baby Brits) so I'm looking forward to seeing this team whichever country they pick.

A slightly weaker senior field than last season - as expected, with no-one needing to warm up for the Olympic Qualifier - but a stronger junior one. A great French team here, and good to have a full slate of US seniors and juniors.

Yeah, I’m not begrudging her skating for Egypt - it’s normal to seek out a path to international competition. It’s just a bit odd it’s with Spodyriev rather than an NA guy closer to her own age/experience/skill level who also wants to get out there internationally.

but also they've been talking like it was a done deal that juniors at least would be back since early last season lol so i would find it difficult to believe they had no idea like they were literally saying they would be back

Technically, they are gifted, but the program didn't grab me. But I think for Russian specialists, the levels, GOE and the win are their greatest priorities. It has been this way for at least the last decade.

Edit: Apologies for missing the subtext. However, the Russian narrative has always been "we're so wronged, and unjustly targeted"... so we have what we have; let's not make it that deep. Enjoy them while you can, if you can.

AIN hasn't changed one bit. Sitting out four years didn't change anything. Still arrogant, doping, and ugly skating (at least from the Eteri skaters).

I have never bended myself "in pretzels" to defend russians. And I wasn't trying to defend them now - just responding to the thought that they probably did it intentionally in order to send some message to the international audience. Sure, if they knew early on they were going to skate for the international audience this season, it was likely intentional from them/their coaches/choreographers. Or they are actually arrogant enough to think nothing much about it.

And whose problem that you are a masochist? Somebody used a 100+ year old New Year song for political reasons and you are suffering. Then Russians used it as a New Year song again and you are again suffering. Go ahead.
