Whenever I hear the name Taylor Swift all I can think of is Aretha Franklin saying “Great gowns. Beautiful gowns” when asked to evaluate her singing ability.

I concur that her voice isn't amazing. Her ability to write songs people connect with is what's made her more popular, imo.

I also wouldn't say she's the only singer whose voice is on the lesser side of their writing ability. Bob Dylan and Björk immediately come to mind for me.

Regardless, I hope the rich and famous had a good time.

As for the costs for special events in NYC, the city is used to it. Every time the president (any of them) is in the city, security is elevated over the entire island and not just federal. Ditto when the UN is in session. Same with big sporting events like the Knicks, or the upcoming US Open.... those entities don't cough up for extra police OT.

I’m not a Swiftie by any means (I think I’ve only heard a few of her songs), but in her defense, it’s the rare musical artist who is both a great singer and a great lyricist, and Swift has good company in the latter category with the likes of Sheryl Crowe, Madonna and others. (Madonna once said something like, “I didn’t become a singer because I thought I had a great voice. I became a singer because I had something to say.”)

When I started this thread in 2023 I was not a fan. I was so shocked at the number of people showing up at her concerts who did not have tickets. I didn’t dislike her—just never paid attention to her.
Of course when she started see a Chief that put her into my space. And I started listening to her. I enjoy her later albums. I think she is a fantastic writer and a good, definitely not great, singer. But the writing shines for me.
Also covering so much in her concerts and the sense of girlhood (in females of all ages) that is present at her shows is a plus.
Finally there is the ever present Swiftie, Gaylor, Kaylor debates. That makes my head hurt. Avoidance for sure… But I wish her well and enjoy my limited playlist.

She has a good voice and she writes songs that suit her voice. Just because she doesn't shriek or add in tons of unnecessary showing-off vocal mannerisms (looking at you Mariah Carey and Ariane Grande) doesn't mean she's not a good singer.

Meanwhile, wow, Michelle Kwan had her hip replaced already. On the other hand, I think other female skaters have been even younger… I guess no one told her ahead of time she’d be up and walking about before going home? My most recent friend who had her hip replaced had it done outpatient, which seems to be typical now.

I know but using the t in just twice, once for just and once for one of their names makes my eye keep going back to it like a misspelling and not a chosen on purpose nickname. but everyone can't be as cute as bakerie.

I remember listening to her sing live in concert at a big country music festival when she was still in her teens. I wasn't impressed. She was flat pretty much the whole time. But her voice has improved considerably since then, and I have become a fan over the years.

As I said to a friend recently, I consider myself a Swiftie now. Not to the level that I will fork over thousands of dollars to see her live in concert, but I did go see the Eras Tour movie in my local theater. I have purchased her music. I enjoyed 'Life of a Showgirl' quite a lot. And I do, genuinely, think she and Travis make a cute couple. I wish them every happiness ... and IMO, they actually have a shot at it. They seem to be in love, for real.

I wasn't fond of her earlier music, but 16-17 is much different as you mature. She has done a great deal of good for artists and maintaining ownership of their work. As far as I can tell she is respected by other artists which speaks a lot in this industry. I doubt that Sir Paul or Stevie Nicks would attend/perform at her wedding just because.

She crosses over generations for likability. At least 2 generations - daughters, granddaughters and probably 3 with Grandma Amy know all her later songs. I watched the Eras Final Performance 3+ hour video. Optics? Lots of them - but also very good.

From all accounts - staff, now inlaws - she does not see herself above cleaning up dirty glasses or tables in the Chiefs Suites. Her generosity, much like the Kelce's, are reported not by them but the organizations who received donations.

Tay and Trav (as my granddaughters call them) have several role models for long term relationships/marriages. Mahomes' have been a couple since high school, her parents long marriage, even Donna and Ed who are divorced figured a way be together while divorced and more. Whether or not it can survive is not something I would/can predict - but the premature " they'll be divorced in 6 mo, 12 mo or whatever" speaks of jealousy. They seem genuinely in love and not a lust situation.

The "she's an awful pretend singer, she's fake, she's not as good as _____" well is opine and really not supported by her fellow artists.

I certainly don't scour all media or tabloids for a bit of gossip, I get tired of the media frenzy, I block some of it. I do know from someone who was at the red carpet event of the ESPN series premier - she was not in attendance, not wanting to take away from the Chiefs stuff (comes from one of the producers, I personally know). It's not always about Taylor as some of you think.

Her music just has brought me so much joy. I became a Swiftie during the folklore era but have gone back and now enjoy all her albums although I more gravitate toward Red and beyond.
