Taylor Swift

they could build a lot more goodwill if they paid for all costs associated with the event…police overtime, security done by the city on a very busy holiday weekend, giving extra $$ to the city for the inconvenience of road closures, etc. maybe they already are?

NYC is like a ghost town around July 4.

me neither but that's just setting a low bar for the most visible $$$ people. many people of that tier of income have given significantly and we all share in that when we go to the orchestra, a museum, a school. it's a nice thing and she's not the problem, but her fans are like the Fanyu's of music. in perspective to your own income, from 2 people, what would that amount be for you?

Well first of all she doesn't have 1B in the bank. She has 1B in terms of her total assets: her catalogue, etc. But really, she's the only celeb who donates 26 million and people complain it's not enough.
She donates tons of money every year. This isn't her only donation.

I am not saying it is not enough. I think it is interesting to put it into perspective of other people's incomes and donations. Her fans act like she invented charity but that isn't her fault. If you do not enjoy that conversation, that is ok.

"Her fans"? You realize she has millions of fans all over the world right?

it would appear so tho I havent done a head count. some are really about that life more than others tho.

"About that life"? How? To have Taylor on our spotify streams and to watch the Eras tour concert on Disney Plus is "about that life"?

some do come off particularly invested and that is manifested in other ways. and that hurts no one so they can keep at it. it is not dissimilar from the variety of uber fans in skating that have come and gone.

Sounds to me like they are doing their part. Multiple NYC charities are on the list issued for example. As for police overtime, how do we know it's overtime? Might just be a regular day on the job for many or most of them (perhaps a weekday was chosen on purpose?), who are used to being assigned to events of all sizes, parades, movie and television shoots, construction, etc. Ditto road closures - happens all the time in NY, and people who live there are used to it, they just carry on. This is what's closed this weekend in Manhattan - dozens of road closures that are nowhere near MSG or Taylor's home.

Page Six has a live stream of the arriving vehicles on YouTube

AP has a better stream. Hugh Grant just arrived on foot

Wow, their donations sound great. I doubt many of the other very rich like Musk, Trump, etc donate so generously.
MacKenzie Scott and Melissa Gates donate simiilar amounts regularly.

The good they could do if only they would....
Musk, et. al. would donate to horrible causes. So it's probably for the best that they aren't super-generous. ;)

Seeing as tax returns are private, why is anyone making any assumptions about what Musk or any other billionaire is donating to charity?

The people who make it public are virtue signaling, IMO, in a lame attempt to excuse their excessive lifestyles. It's like buying carbon credits.

I can't believe the New Heights podcast had Prince William on today. Of course Travis and Jason are occupied in NYC at the moment. I think I would be a bundle of nerves.

Do you really think Musk would donate millions to charity without making sure people know about it? That doesn't seem to be his style.

Many times it's the organization that was donated to that announces it. It gives attention to their programs which leads to good things.

It's not like buying carbon credits because carbon credits are a scam. Donating to charity is not a scam.

It's called leadership. Taylor Swift and to a lesser degree Travis Kelce are highly, highly influential so if their charity inspires others to do the same, then it's a very good thing.

I think this was only announced because instead of receiving wedding gifts, they chose to give them - in direct contrast I might add to the current president and his family who continue to take instead of give.

And on a related note, I'm DYING to see the dress and suit!! Big fan of Jonathan Anderson here :cheer2:

I also love that instead of a big wedding party they went with their own brothers - my husband and I did the same thing rather than choose among friends - we went with our own siblings instead. Having a hard time picturing Adam Sandler doing to the officiating, but apparently he's done this before? Plus it's generally assumed that the official, legal wedding already took place so this one was more symbolic to share with their guests.

They've done a masterful job of keeping their secrets so I'm assuming all will be revealed in due time :)
