Right. I think the chances of a SkAm assignment are stronger than a SCI assignment, though, should any withdrawals happen. Skate Canada receives government funding & the Canadian government is far less friendly to Russia right now than the US; so Skate Canada could risk that government funding if they invite any Russians should vacancies occur.

Skate Canada is bound by ISU rules, including the ones about replacements, and the Canadian government knows that. Other Canadian Feds whose sports have allowed Russian participation due to the rules of the controlling organizations haven’t lost government funding. If they want to stop Russians from from competing at Skate Canada, the Canadian government can deny visas.

My point is that the Canadian government is not going to defund Skate Canada for inviting AIN skaters from Russia that they are obligated to invite based on the GP replacement rules.

Medvedeva is much worse than Valieva only much more sophisticated and self controlled in her words ( and deeds); she is a too careful diplomat. Of course she is retired but her 'Russia and Russians ( skaters) are the best in the world' banner invisible and endlessly hangs over her and have not disappeared with her retirement.

I do not think that Valieva is so much lying, how much she is rather a victim of the system that has pushed her to believe what is told to her to believe. However, for ISU to allow her to compete internationally... IMO it is incomprehensible and unforgivable, it is a profound humiliation to each and every honest athlete in the world.

I don't think anyone is assuming they won't ultimately be allowed in, but they have to go through extra steps because they were denied for the O's last year.

Actually StepBuk were denied for TWO Olympic games but I doubt the ISU is paying as close attention as I am.
