I didn't watch the game but checked in on the score from time to time and then in extra time. With ancestors from the Iberian peninsula I was supporting Spain, especially after the country was so bad-mouthed at the NATO meeting.

Granville on Vancouver is one big party. I think what I can appreciate about World Cup is how people can cheer for a team despite no personal stake in the matter.
The watch parties were all packed. I never went to the official one near Playland where the figure skating was in 2010, but all the unofficial ones were full, with crowds overflowing. I also love the visual of people watching outside bars and restaurants.
I was in a coffeeshop yesterday along Granville, just because, not realizing how it was a main site for people of Middle Eastern or African descent to come and watch a game where team in one of those regions were playing. It seemed they prefer England over France. Any reason for that? Anyway, they were really into the game. I am only that way with figure skating where the specific nationality of the skaters don’t much matter to me.

Because FIFA wanted Argentina to win? To me it looks like if anyone committed a foul, it was Otamendi. Anyway, Spain found a way to overcome and are deserved champions. Congratulations to them!
