My post was about the championship ring. escaflowne is the poster who expressed disapproval of the half-time show.
I hadn't really given it any thought but now that I do, I don't think it's about trying something new. I think it's about trying to make a spectacle out of a sport and Americanizing something that's otherwise not as attractive to US audiences and it might also have something to do with the Infantino-Trump relationship.
Not all roads lead back to Trump, despite what you & many folks in this particular thread keep saying every time you bring him up.
Also, "Americanizing" the half-time show is certainly not some new phenomenon that's arisen in just the last decade since Trump rose to political prominence.
Considering the difference in mindset between the average soccer fan and the average US sports fan, I would be surprised if a half-time show had legs. Soccer is a rather unspectacular sport. Usually, the teams walk out onto the field, there's maybe the Champions League hymn or the national anthems when it's an international competition then they take a picture, do the draw and it's kick off. Then they play 45 minutes, take a 15 minute break and play another 45 minutes. That's it.
Well, being a rather unspectacular sport is yet another reason it hasn't caught on, at the professional league level, with most Americans. But please, let's stop pretending that it's just play 45 min, 15 min break, then play another 45 min. This is a sport that can't be bothered to stop the clock when players melodramatically flop on the turf or when there is a real medical issue or when they go to video review. Instead, the ref has sole control of adding however much stoppage time to the end of each half and the fans just go along with and accept that as transparent and fair. Newsflash - it's not.
Beyond that, I don't think there are many teams or leagues or clubs who'd want to invest the money that a half-time show costs.
The half-time show isn't a "thing" here in the US outside of the "Bowl" games, both college and NFL. At college & high school football games you may see the marching band, cheerleaders and dance/drill team perform but it isn't something that the teams/schools are pouring extra money into. And, apart from the Super Bowl extravaganza, the half-time shows aren't even televised in their entirety anymore, which is sort of sad because I can remember the Orange Bowl and Rose Bowl half-time shows being really fun to watch when I was much younger. At best, nowadays, the TV networks may air the featured performer and snippets of the bands, but half-time is really taken up by analysis and commercial breaks.
It's interesting that you chose to disregard the portion of my post calling out the gate-keeping about the sport that so many here are engaging in. I could take everything you've said and find the exact same type of complaining here on FSU about ISU events. "This isn't the way my sport has held competitions and I don't like it!!!!" For as open-minded as many of you pride yourselves on being, you're not, really, all that open-minded or willing to try something new or different.
