Road to FIFA Men’s World Cup 2026

There worries that the poor air quality because of the wildfires could affect the World Cup final. Hopefully everything goes okay
Last I heard, air quality was predicted to improve by Friday afternoon/evening. There are slight storm chances Friday evening and higher probabilities of storms Saturday, so Sunday should be fine.
And the match for third place should be unaffected, from the wildfire smoke, at least. No idea about the heat dome which I read was drifting south.

😡 🤢

Honestly, this seems like the least of anything tacky that the US has in preparation for the final. Championship rings are pretty much an American tradition in American Football, basketball, baseball etc. It's just a kitsch momento

I'm more perplexed by the existence of a halftime show .

Super Bowl rings? 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤣😝 Maybe the halftime show will be …. YMCA 😇😇😇😆.

:respec:

That would be me and I don't speak Spanish though I have learned a few words of lingo for the games. As far as the halftime show: BLECH. Keep it with the Superbowl. Rings though: I never paid attention until KC started winning them and I have to say I like those gaudy sparklers. Everything on the ring has a meaning to the team and to the game and they have these sweet compartments. For the players each ring is personalized. But what I like most is that the organization has an option to provide the rings to the people who were there day in and day out working for the organizaiton. It would be nice if those people might be considered who worked so hard for Argentina and Spain. Here is the Chief's videographer receiving her ring:

Why are they trying to make the World Cup like the Superbowl?

1.5 billion people all over the world watched the 2022 final. What was the viewership for this year’s Superbowl?

Both the BBC and RTE have called tonight’s game “the bronze medal match”. Is that a new thing? It was always called the third place play-off as far back as I can recall.

The commentators are ripping France to shreds. First half was a mess for them, and England has taken advantage. 4-0 was not the score I was expecting at the half!

The World Cup isn't an American championship, though. It's a world event, organized by an international body. Why does the US (who is only one of three co-hosts) feel the need to impose their traditions upon a global event?

Impose? The article said the finished rings were to be mailed out to the winners after the fact . The recipients can just throw them in the trash if they don't want them.

In any case , I do agree it's not really needed ; it's just compared to the rest of it( halftime show , Star Spangled Banner etc ) it seems to be the least awful.

The Super Bowl rings are not distributed until 6 mo or so after game played. There are rings for both teams, I believe there are rings for division champions too.
Often the runner up rings are - in my view - are nicer than Champions (yes I've seen both KC ones).

Yes it's awful how the US has tried to make it all about US. Super Bowlish, Star Spangled Banner, half time show crap

What’s hilarious is Soccer wants Us market share but the NBA and NFL desperately want to be Soccer

Man playing that third place game must be tough with two broken-hearted teams. Otoh they played without nerves or pressure and made a game of it.

I’m going to watch the halftime show to make fun of it.
