Very sorry for Norway but I am happy for England. And though I only watched the very end I do like the way the Telemundo broadcaster says the name of my state, Kansas, or CAN-SASS.

They can join Argentina in that category. Same officiating tactic too, to disallow a goal due to typical contact five plays earlier that nobody called in real time.

American football has an opportunity to earn big salaries, the fan base is huge. Even if you aren't the big name players, you have plenty of opportunities to succeed (practice squads, coaches - from elementary to colleges, trainers, etc). Scholarships to college, etc

There just isn't the same opportunities for soccer.

Yes, elite soccer is expensive - my grandson is 14, they travel a lot. While American Football is less expensive overall, to become elite takes a great deal of investment too.

Women's soccer in the US thrives. Great players, etc. why? Besides Soccer, Basketball, Volleyball, Cheer (yes it is a competitive sport) there is not the big sports opportunities.

Based on what I heard, one of soccer's big problems is that there are so few opportunities for commercials during a game. Therefore, it's not attractive to Big Money.
Additionally, there's little action on the field compared to Basketball and Football. The former is a fast paced game and the latter, well, to this German who has no idea about the rules, it looks like the goal is to run into each other and make a human pile every few minutes. :lol:

How did you conclude that cheering against the team was because of self-loathing? What do you consider problematic about cheering against the home country's team after the head of state interfered?

Speaking of, I spoke to my dad about this the other day and he mentioned that he'd come across a number of German experts (media outlets have former referees who they interview especially in controversial cases like this) who had said that they think this foul would have deserved a 2 or 3 game suspension.
That, in turn, made me remember that there's always a review of the foul when it resulted a red card because they need to determine how severe it was and if the mandatory one game suspension is enough or if there should be more. In other words, Infantino's claim that it was already under review is likely correct. I think it's safe to assume that it wasn't for the reason implied, though, and given the lack of precedence, the review wouldn't have resulted in a suspension of the red card without interference.
 
I turned this game off awhile ago but I've known every time Argentina scores thanks to my upstairs neighbors, lol.
 
We are not far from Arrowhead stadium. All the way down to El Dorado there were traffic signs indicating best routes.. coming close to Lawrence KS - lots of FIFA welcome! Signs.
Every pit stop we made had FIFA merch

Mr Ice is pro-Argentina, having spent close to a month there on outdoor adventures, but I was rooting for the underdogs last night

Yes but there is huge money to made here in the sport and it is undeniably growing. I love that KC built a soccer stadium exclusively for their women's team. It would have never even occurred to me that this would happen in the 80's or 90's. I wasn't even aware of the World Cup. And seeing the sport on tv? Maybe a small feature on The Wide World of Sports one Saturday. And I do love that it was Mia Hamm, Julie Foudy, Brandi Chastain and their teammates that finally captured the country's attention in their World Cup run. Does the game itself interest me? Sadly, still no. But there are so many young girls and boys out there involved at every age level in the sport now that I think it keeps growing.
