I’m not super worried about sports opportunities for kids in the US. I teach in a low income school, and most kids do sports. A lot of them do NOTHING BUT SPORTS. It’s actually kind of obnoxious when you can’t convince kids that anything else is worthwhile even though it might have a more longterm impact on them or be more fun. It didn’t used to be this way, but now it feels like the only thing kids are doing.

For some reason they all think they need to be a 3 sport athlete to get into college, meanwhile even the lower level colleges around us are saying that they are looking for more in extracurriculars than just sports.

Interesting. I thought young kids were learning violin as an extracurricular? But of course, learning the violin costs money. It's not helping if colleges thinks extracurriculars for kids that have easier entry are not considered "decent".

Do you know they talked soccer for five minutes in the middle of the docent talk? About why Scots won’t root for England but love Norway and why the Swiss hope France doesn’t win.

@manhn music programs are cut to the bare bones in my area. Sure some schools have programs ..but kids/parents have to rent or buy instruments, to get more than a large group in lessons you pay for private lessons.

Pure hatred of US is showing up with a vengeance. I know many who were angry of the Trump actions and were actually not cheering for US after that

Try expanding your circle. There were plenty of people still cheering for the US against Belgium. And several days on from the loss, most folks have moved on to other topics.

Also, no offense, but if you know Americans who were cheering against the US team after Trump's call, then maybe gently encourage them to seek help because that's a level of self-loathing that isn't healthy.

To be super pedantic (because I am ), vikings sailed and/or rowed depending on the circumstances. But I do love this guy's commitment to his historiographical framework. But also the fan group rowing is pretty cool.
