I was in Birstall this morning. I feel sick. I am just heartbroken that this has happened.

Such an awful thing, her family and friends must be devastated that Jo was taken from them like this :(

An angry loner with a gun...this sound so familiar but not for the UK. This is shocking.

What a horrible tragedy and a terrible loss. I didn't know anything about Jo Cox before reading the article linked in the OP, but it seems like she was an exceptional woman. RIP Jo Cox and condolences to her family, friends, and constituents.

When I see her and see that she was shot it makes me think of Gabby Giffords---it is all very sad.

It's so sad, she's left a husband and 2 girls and did so much in her short life.

RIP Jo Cox.

The headlines say the killer is a loner with a history of mental health problems. That phrase...loner with a history of mental health problems...I think I've heard that phrase enough for two lifetimes and we will hear it again no doubt and another wonderful person will be gone. I'm so sick of this.

She seemed so nice. Her speech on diversity...loved it. This is very sad news.

It is a senseless tragedy and my heart goes out to her husband and children who face a sad road without their wife and mother. Listening to the clips of her she sounded like a good solid Yorkshire lass who's goal in life was to help others regardless of their race, colour or creed. What a loss to all of us.

Jo Cox may you rest in peace :(

It is horrifying and senseless. I'm so sorry for her family.

And I have to say, I'm shocked this isn't a bigger story.

I am unsure where you are located but it is the headline news here in the UK and probably will be for a while.

My prayers to her family and the people of the U.K. No matter how someone may disagree with a politician, assassination is not the answer. Reports circulating in the U.S. today say the murderer had ties to U.S. neo-Nazis. :(

yeap....... he could not buy a gun, so he made his own.
Today's article in the NYT says he did not make the gun he used in the attack.

*** Thomas Mair, Suspect in Jo Cox Killing, Had History of Neo-Nazi Ties and Mental Illness :

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/06/18/world/europe/jo-cox-attack.html?_r=0
In Birstall, about six miles southwest of the city of Leeds, Hichem Ben Abdallah, who runs a cafe near the site of the killing, said that Ms. Cox’s attacker had pulled a gun — “it looked like an old sawn-off shotgun, probably an old vintage one” — from a bag. The attacker, he said, “was shaking it very violently,” perhaps because it had jammed.
The gun used in the shooting was not homemade, according to the person briefed on the investigation, who said that Mr. Mair also had a hunting knife.
A gun is a gun is a gun in the hands of an angry twisted individual no matter what the laws or how it was obtained. I sincerely hope the focus will remain on Jo Cox & her achievements & not descend into another one outlining the hundreds of reasons to support gun ownership. We've already read those.

RIP Jo Cox.
