^Reading the above article, I came across a link to an article that reports that the man from the pool incident lost his job. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/nbcblk...n-north-carolina-pool-no-n889371?icid=related

Vermitsky said Bloom is now getting death threats and had to leave his home with his wife and three children to a safe location. While Bloom's lawyer said that "racism ... is a pervasive problem in this country," his client was enforcing the rules "uniformly, without preference or prejudice."

I don't condone threats of any kind, it's unnecessary, appalling, stupid and doesn't help anyone in any way, still, I have a hard time finding sympathy for something he seems to be responsible for himself. I just hope that nothing happens to him and certainly not to his family.
I guess, Mr Bloom now knows how minorities feel.

Well, another heartbreaking story. "13 year old black male abducted and forced into car by several white males". He was able to escape, but goodness me I knew things were escalating but I hope it wasn't at the point of abduction of persons of color.

Just checking. The only account of this incident is the boy who said he was kidnapped. No one saw a thing. Where did the bus go? No cars or neighbors? That is quite an allegation to take at face value.

Another idiot spews hatred & doesn't know Puerto Ricans are U.S. citizens.

*** Caught on video: Man harangues woman in park for wearing Puerto Rico shirt; police officer does little to help :
https://www.usatoday.com/story/news...ng-puerto-rico-shirt-illinois-park/770858002/
Authorities in Illinois are investigating an incident caught on video in which a white man harangued a Latino woman who was wearing a shirt displaying the Puerto Rican flag at a local park.

In addition, officials from the Forest Preserves of Cook County, which runs several wooded areas that surround Chicago, are looking into the behavior of a police officer who observed the incident and appeared to do little or nothing to stop it.
“We don’t own Puerto Rico,” the man says. “Are you educated?” Puerto Rico has been a U.S. territory since 1898 and is classified as a Free Associated State or commonwealth.
The policeman did nothing, despite the woman telling him she had a permit for the picnic shelter. He probably wouldn't have hesitated to call animal control if her dog had bitten the man while he was in her face raging at her.

*** Saltgrass COO, waiter say racism story made up :
https://www.oaoa.com/news/business/article_741af8b8-8eb5-11e8-b276-6fd15202251a.html
The Odessa waiter whose story about being called a terrorist by a customer spurred national attention last week now admits it was all a hoax. The waiter, Khalil Cavil, 20, admitted he wrote the racist note himself in a Monday interview with the Odessa American, where he apologized to a reporter “because I did lie to you. “I did write it,” Cavil said, refusing to explain why. “I don’t have an explanation. I made a mistake. There is no excuse for what I did.”

Ving Rhames shares his experience this year about a neighbor calling "9-1-1" and stating to the police that a large black broke into a house. The problem is that it was Rhames' house. He answered the door and the police had the gun aimed for him and yelled at him to get down. Luckily the chief of police was there and recognized Rhames' face and told the other cops to back down. Rhames wondered what would have happened if he wasn't famous or if it was his son who answered holding a video game controller and the cops thinking it was a gun or something.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2018/aug/01/memphis-police-black-lives-matter-activists

A trove of documents released by the city of Memphis late last week appear to show that its police department has been systematically using fake social media profiles to surveil local Black Lives Matter activists, and that it kept dossiers and detailed power point presentations on dozens of Memphis-area activists along with lists of their known associates. Police surveillance of activists has a history in Memphis dating back to the civil rights era and Martin Luther King’s fateful last trip to the city on behalf of striking sanitation workers in 1968. Police at the time were not only spying on the labor organizers behind the strike, but on over 30 community organizations including the local university’s black student union and the National Council of Churches.
So all times that Blacks have mentioned and touted that the government, law enforcement spied on us, monitored us are vindicated with this information.

And it's not only limited to the government & law enforcement because it sounds like there is plenty of sharing going on.
The briefings, which contained sensitive information including photographs, dates of birth, addresses, and mental health histories were distributed beyond the department according to the ACLU lawsuit, to a number of local businesses including the region’s largest employer FedEx and the county school district.

*** Black student claims white staffer called cops on her for reading :
https://nypost.com/2018/08/02/black-student-claims-white-staffer-called-cops-on-her-for-reading/
“I am blown away at the fact that I cannot even sit down and eat lunch peacefully,” she wrote. “Today someone felt the need to call the police on me while I was sitting down reading, and eating in a common room at the Massachusetts school. This person didn’t try to bring their concerns forward to me, but instead decided to call the police.”

“I did nothing wrong, I wasn’t making any noise or bothering anyone,” she added.
“No student of color should have to explain why they belong at prestigious white institutions,” she wrote. “I worked my hardest to get into Smith, and I deserve to feel safe on my campus.”

Kanoute said the racist staff member reported her as a “suspicious black male sitting in the common room.”

The police surveillance of Memphis activists during the civil rights era coincides with the FBI's COINTELPRO program which involved surveilling, infiltrating, discrediting, and disrupting domestic political organizations. Last year, the FBI announced a program to crack down on what it termed "Black Identity Extremist"--or B.I.E. groups. So I am not surprised by the recent efforts to discredit BLM in Memphis. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/11/15/opinion/black-identity-extremism-fbi-trump.html

Here's a really good article about the rash of people calling 911 on Black people just for living:

https://www.cnn.com/2018/08/10/us/white-flight-911-calls/index.html

The theory is that white flight has turned into white fight. I grew up in one of the first suburbs in the US and it was full of white flight people. My dad was raised in South Philly and when the first Black people started moving there, the family fled to Bensalem. Moving to Levittown was considered a step up. The town was something like 97% white.

But the people I see calling 911 on Black people don't seem to be the people I grew up with. Those are more likely to be the people who are spitting on Indian guys in turbans and screaming at Hispanic people to "just speak English." The 911 stuff seems more subtle to me. Which is part of why I find is so insidious.

Last weekend while at the zoo with our grandchildren, I saw many cute adorable male kids of color enjoying the day with eyes filled with joy. Much like my kids.

I looked at their parents and grandparents, wondering how often they thought about them growing up and feared for their future. To face the fact that black teens and adults are racially profile, harassed, jailed, killed for nothing other than being a poc in the U.S.

My heart just ached over the potential future and heartache that they will face.

*** As men accuse Des Moines police of discrimination, groups push Iowa law banning racial profiling :
https://www.desmoinesregister.com/s...filing-ia-lawsuit-naacp-black-men/1109223002/
The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People said 30 states have laws prohibiting racial profiling, but Iowa doesn't.

The African-American men seen in the video, Montray Little and Jared Clinton, said in the lawsuit submitted Friday they were racially profiled by two white Des Moines police officers when they pulled over their car for no apparent reason, handcuffing one of them while searching the vehicle without a warrant or probable cause.

… The search found nothing, and the two were allowed to drive away.

*** Video: Oregon Woman's Racist Rant Goes Viral on Facebook and Now She's Moving After Severe Backlash :
https://www.newsweek.com/video-oregon-woman-racist-rant-viral-facebook-house-under-security-1121751
“Before you say anything you might want to make sure you're actual ‘legals,’” the unidentified woman told Cairel and her friend. Asked what she means, the woman replies: “That you’re ‘illegals’ crossing the border. And your parents probably had to work for f---ing dirt just to get here.” The woman is smiling as she speaks and has a passenger in her car, who appears to be hiding from the camera.

According to Cairel, she had been out with friends in Portland when the woman started racially abusing her for being Asian. "It started when she had said in the most demeaning, poor excuse of a supposed ‘Asian’ accent that ‘She’s Asian, she can’t see, that’s why she can’t drive,'" Cairel wrote.
