I don't know how you sell this to the general public, but what would happen if instead of ranking the skaters, they were slotted into weighted ranking groups based on their score and how many standard deviations they were from the leader?

So in the ladies SP, for example, you'd have Valieva as #1, then Wakaba as maybe 3, Gubanova & Schizas as 4, Chen as 5, Schott, Shabatova and Brezinova as 6.

Actual rank could one of the tiebreakers.

It would make it unpredictable, lol.
