Read today about 15 Mio deaths due to the pandemic world wide are estimated. Such a huge number 😢

About 8-9 Mio deaths are not covid deaths but deaths due to overwhelmed health systems. That is especially tragic, I think. Because we tried so hard to keep the health systems working but it just did not work all the time.

I hope that this is a wake up point for countries to put more money into the health sector at any rate.

I'm posting this a day before the weekly report because they mentioned on the local news how cases are rising. Just from the dashboard - 3 week trend from 6,890 to 11.013 reported cases. It's better than 11K per day. but still.

I had Ellen on in the background because I didn't want to turn off the tv and back on again (it takes two remotes to do it and dh keeps moving one of them). I was cringing watching all the close contact even though I'm sure it was taped a while ago.

They did and I saw that and decided just to post to take Tylenol rather than say NO ASPIRIN because I didn't want that person to feel bad. I know, silly of me. We're all big girls here.

Also, I used the generic terms in case it's not called Tylenol in other countries so it might not have stood out.
Omg I remember my husband with 4 remotes and how freaking confusing it was for me lol.

Relating to Knots Landing (again) - during the 1988 Olympics, I had my dad tape Knots Landing so I could watch the men's program on that Thursday. He had to use one remote for the t.v. and one remote for the VCR. He hit record right before Knots Landing and then forgot to switch back to the t.v. remote, so he switched the channel to the Olympics and that's what got taped. I didn't find out till I went to their house on Sunday to watch Knots. AARRGGHH.

A friend of mine got the crud and called her doctor right away. Ther prescribed Paxlovid. She got better after a couple of days and tested negative. I’m going to do that if I ever get it.
CA public health is advertising that drug on tv and streaming and social media every time I look around. I think not enough people know about it and they are trying to fix that.

"North Korea said Friday that six people died and hundreds of thousands of others fell ill amid an “explosive spread” of fever across the nation, a day after it acknowledged a COVID-19 outbreak. NK is not vaccinated."

Spoke too soon. She had a relapse and feels crappy. And is testing positive again. I guess Paxlovid isn’t the miracle cure after all.

I posted an article about this earlier. And I've read several comments since then from medical specialists saying that people who test negative after using Paxlovid have to self monitor carefully because of a propensity toward testing positive again. As the post above says, this doesn't mean it's not helpful; but it's something to look out for, especially if one's contacts are at high risk.

Somebody did some modeling and figured out that, if the rest of the country had taken the same measures that we did in the SF Bay Area, it could have saved over 650,000 lives. That is a bit mind-boggling and also makes me mad all over again.

I will link to the articles about it but it looks like they are behind a paywall and SJ Merc has no gifting. :(

Again, no one is measuring the unprecedented loss in educational achievement, mental health crisis, crime spike, sharp rise in inequality: all of which are off the charts in the SF Bay area. Rewind the clock to 2020, and if you ask me whether to take a SF Bay Area or a Florida approach to C19, my answer remains Florida, definitively. At least some people have woken up, voting out most of the SF school board, etc. People continuing to justify the Democratic-led lockdowns and school closures makes me mad all over again, and makes me realize that the most important thing is voting every last lockdown supporter out of office.

How it started:

How it’s going:

At this point, BA is hardly unique in not requiring masks - virtually all major airlines are operating under the same policy.

The cancellations have nothing to do with C19 outbreaks and more to do with laying off too many staff during C19, not rehiring quickly enough, and general lack of attractiveness of the airline industry. Govermnent lockdowns, and the fear of more lockdowns/restrictions, have people rightly looking elsewhere for work. (Plus the pay is pretty bad.)

This isn't affecting only BA - Easyjet is removing seats from its planes so that it can legally fly with fewer flight attendants. BA is harder hit in part because it reintroduced too many routes and sold too many tickets, despite not having staff to manage the volumes. BA is woefully mismanaged and just had a complete shakeup of their executive team.

I'm not going to get into the unending arguments of education, mental health issues or the current masking issues. You all know my stance.

BA is not the only airline needing to cancel flights due to staffing issues. The whole world wide airline industry is in a chaotic disaster crisis. Some of it is covid related - immediate acute illness but also covid related because employees were fired or laid off during reduced staffing/travel.

I am part of a cruise travel Facebook group. I would say that 2/3rds of the posts in the last 6 weeks are complaints, concerns, panic over flight changes, airplane type and seat assignments changes. I've flown 6 times since October 2021, was supposed to fly April 2022 (canceled trip due to false positive test  ) and planned flights in July and October. I think I get at least weekly change notifications whic could aircraft types, times, seating etc.

It is not uncommon in today's travel environment

I'm not surprised if half of the former staff of airplanes is gone now.

My yoga teacher is a flight attendant for Lufthansa as her main job and Lufthansa didn't have work for her from March 2020 until December 21st, not a single flight. But the Lufthansa used the "short-shift program" from the German government, so she got 70% of her salary from the German state and was not laid off.

But I don't think there's that many countries except for Germany, where the government paid (most of) the salaries of the halted industries employees, while they did not work in their original job? I assume in countries without such a social security net, the employees were laid off or left by themselves and searched for another job elsewhere and now they are gone (of course that problem exists in Germany too anyway, especially in jobs with seasonal workers or part time workers). And my yoga teacher foudn it pretty horrid, despite being paid, at least she still had her yoga teacher job, which resumed much earlier.

We’re number 1! We’re number 1! :cheer2::wall: :(

And no, this is not because we test more here. We don’t.

I’ll admit that not really really releasing the true numbers helps me. It always caused me anxiety. You’re good out in Nova Scotia. I will still mask popping into stores etc. hopefully we are going in the right direction with it not attacking the lungs.
