Thanks for saying that. I'd been dubious about Wandavision as I have no interest in superhero stories either (can just about handle Doom Patrol, but that's kind of anti-superhero), and this has confirmed that I will most likely skip it.

Actually, I really enjoyed Wandavision. The first two episodes seemed strange, but I stayed with it because I knew it was going somewhere, and it definitely did that. It's a great segue to Wanda's continued story in the MCU. I loved it.

I’ve been quite taken with some offerings geared towards youth: Previously I’ve mentioned “Dash and Lily” and “The Map of Tiny, Perfect Things.” Now add “Moxie” to the list. This was a bit uneven compared to the first two but still wonderfully entertaining with a girl power message.

Speaking of offerings for youth, we just watched "The Secret World of Arrietty" on HBOMax. It's a Japanese anime version of "The Borrowers." It was a lovely film, almost improving on the books in some ways. Recommended.

I loved WandaVision. It was the story of what would happen if you lost someone who was your whole world but you had the power to bring them back. The last episodes (and that finale!) were so emotional and I'm excited to see where they take the characters going forward. Unfortunately, I do think you have to have watched some of the previous movies and/or be familiar with the characters or else it gets really confusing really quickly.

Agreed, it was okay but nothing so gripping I could stay awake through

Just watched 'It's a sin' on HBO. Heartbreaking! I really liked it. The story is set in the 1980s in times of 'moral panic' related to AIDS. Some reminiscence to today's ****** panic. Pose on Netfilx didn't hold my attention. And this one did. The group of main characters are all bright, engaged and very convincing.

I've been watching the Dry Bar Comedy channel on YouTube.

So far all of them have been funny. My favorite joke so far is Spencer James talking about buying a $300 car and totaling it by getting a flat tire that cost $308 to fix. :lol:

I really need this channel.

I am extremely late to this, but on the news of the Party Down revival coming up, I decided to check out the original series. I had already heard great things about it, but the clincher was probably the presence of Ken Marino, who was the highlight of The Other Two, my find of a couple years ago. (Which if you haven’t seen The Other Two and you have HBO Max in the US or Crave in Canada, watch it now.) Anyway, not surprising given its cast, but it’s great.

I’m also watching Veronica Mars for a light diversion, as I had never watched it. It’s interesting to see Kristen Bell so young, as I had never really watched her until her career was more established.

Looking forward to this but started on “The Head” and now I must know the answer to the mystery.

Netflix really seems to think I need to watch Murder Among the Mormons so I gave up and started watching. Who knew religious document dealing could be so deadly?

Did you watch the whole thing? How was it?

Watched The U.S. vs Billie Holiday on Hulu and we were disappointed. I thought it could have been organized better or something, or better clarified the timeline.

I am just starting episode 2 where they interview the police. The first episode was about the document dealers and their connection to Mark Hofmann. It kind of reminds me of a wine forgery documentary I watched. Some very intelligent people considered experts in their field were fooled by the con.

It's a BBC Studios Production for Netflix and it tends to be pretty factual rather than sensational. I'll let you know what I think of episode 2 and 3 when I finish them.

Follow-up to previous post:

First of all I was surprised to hear the documentary end on a well used skating song (Einaudi: Experience). Pretty sure most of us will recognize it instantly. 🎹

This was very interesting. I highly recommend watching it. Episode 2 focused on the investigation and Episode 3 had an interview with Mark Hoffmann himself on why he did what he did. I think money was his main motivation and not getting caught. He developed several advanced forgery techniques so who knows how many are out there. He didn't just target the Mormon church. There could be a lot of "originals" that really aren't floating around. The man even experimented with beating polygraph tests long before he ever had to take one. He's a little bit scary smart IMO.

I quite enjoyed Moxie, a nice directorial debut for Amy Poehler. About a group of high school girls who find their inner rage and try to funnel it into something useful, being inspired by a mother’s previous life as a Riott Girrl fan. The first half is better than the second half, but I hope Amy keeps at it. In tone, reminiscent of Whip It, a bit of a hidden gem.

I already commented that I thought the first few episodes were weird. But I'm glad I stuck with it. The ending really packed an unexpected emotional punch.

Speaking of light diversions, this weekend I started watching a series from 2018 called "1983". It's a dystopian Polish series, that takes place in 2003, but traces back to an event in 1983 that precluded the fall of the Iron Curtain in Poland. It is very Blade Runner without the sci-fi parts. Very dark - both in storytelling and visuals. Half the time I can't see what's going on. It's hard to keep track of who is who but is also interesting. The series ran in 2018 - not sure if there was or will be another season.

Everyone's talking about WandaVision and I was expecting a show starring/centering on a fictional version of Wanda Sykes. :shuffle: Am guessing that's not it? :saint:

:lol: maybe I was misled about it? What my friend said about it, and I quote, "Veronica Mars is by no means award winning nor does it have great plot lines. But I still enjoyed watching it." Now, after watching two episodes, I agree that some of it is dark, but it is so cheesy that I can't take it too seriously.

It gets much better as it goes on. The show was kind of finding its tone in the first half of that first season. (That was back when seasons of shows were 20+ episodes!) I also wasn't very into it at first, but got hooked by the end of the first season.

I'm thinking that 'It's a sin' has some relevance to figure skating. Not directly, it's not shown in the film or anything. But if we think of how many figure skaters died from AIDS in the time when this epidemic hit the hardest way. John Curry and Ondrej Nepela immediately come to mind. I googled and the first article that popped up is the one in NYT from from 1992: "Figure skaters are deeply divided on the question of whether AIDS has become a special problem in their sport and on whether to publicize its experiences..." (https://www.nytimes.com/1992/11/17/...an Pockar,Skating Association as AIDS-related.)

Still am thinking about this film, having watched it several days ago.
