We started Utopia on Prime and are enjoying it. The pandemic stuff is just wild to watch as we are in a pandemic (and the conspiracy stuff with all the Q nut stuff going on right now). Four episodes in and every episode has something unexpected. It did have a gory scene that I had to close my eyes for but if you are into pandemic/conspiracy/cult type stuff I would recommend it.

We are 3 episodes into Godless on Netflix. I’m enjoying seeing Scoot McNairy again as the sheriff (loved him on Halt and Catch Fire), and a few of the side characters are good. Otherwise so far, not really loving it. the pace is slow and the psychological mind-games and menacing monologues of the chief baddie are tedious. Some of the acting also is not convincing me, esp. Michelle Dockery as an independent-minded rancher and the woman playing the mayor. I’m not really very into Westerns in general, though. watching it because my husband was interested.

I was excited for Emily in Paris but after three episodes I’m a little disappointed. At least the fashion and scenery are gorgeous though.

I am liking The Innocence Files on Netflix, I can't enjoy the program due to the subject matter. So many innocent people are in jail, and some on the death row after wrongly being prosecuted. The doughy policework and corrupt prosecutors are everywhere, I feel really bad for those people.

I finished The Good Place last night. I was :wuzrobbed: through the finale.

I love watching shows and then reading recaps after, especially for shows like TGP where there are so many details that are easy to overlook. AV Club has been a gushfest on the series since it began, but some of the commentariat rated the show as a whole by season, and in general they were less fangirly. For me:

S1: A+
S2: A
S3: B-
S4: C+ for the 1st half, B+ for the 2nd half, A for the 2-part finale

Yeah, the first half of the last season with that conservative dirtbag taking up so much space was a bit of a slog. But that finale was so beautiful.

Last season of Schitt’s Creek is finally on Netflix. I am halfway through it and it is so good! I hope Bob is okay!!!

The Social Dilemma was fine but cheesey as hell. The fictional film inside the documentary was really awful. Also, it’s been a long time I have seen American news and the clips they used (to discuss the harm of social media) triggered me, making me think that television news is still wayyyyy worse. I will stick with Facebook.

Things I have loved recently: Straight Up, Dear White People, Cobra Kai, Schitt’s Creek.

Things I like with reservations: Never Have I Ever, The Lost Husband, Away.

Me too!!!! I honestly think this is my favorite film—my favorite across all media in fact. I cannot believe how deeply touched I was by that little creature.
I watched “The Trial of The Chicago 7” and was reminded that sometimes everything old is new again. No, 2020 is not the late 60’s but there are undeniable parallels in the events. Aaron Sorkin—whenever he is involved I want to see it.

I watched it last night. The acting is fantastic.
When I was in college in the early 80s I saw Jerry Rubin speak. He was so funny. He told stories about Abbie Hoffman.
Then a couple of years later I saw Abbie debate G. Gordon Liddy. Yes, that happened.

That must have been a trip—Liddy-Hoffman. I have vague memories of the trial. What I did not realize is the utter lack of competence of the judge.

Just finished binging The Haunting of Bly Manor on Netflix. Good until the last episode...I am not sure that I enjoyed how it resolved. Sorta meh on it.

Watched it last night, it was good, kept me engaged. Sacha Cohen's Massachusetts accent was brutal. :)

Yesterday, I've watched Rebecca on Netflix and was underwhelmed. The actors, particularly the Mr. de Winter guy, lack tons of charisma in comparison to book and Olivier/Fontaine movie.

Highlight: KST as Mrs Danvers. What a treat! no lack of chrisma there. As well as Keeley Hawes, just two short appearances as M. de W.'s sister.
Setting and costumes are great, too.

We've been watching Ramy, which is about a twentysomething Arabic Muslim-American guy in New Jersey trying to find himself and figure out what he wants to do in life. It's a dramedy, and the first season was more on the humorous side. The second season is a little more intense but still with some pretty funny moments. Good acting and writing. I've been enjoying it.

Ditto. Underwhelmed is generous. It was kind of a mess, even with good actors involved.
