Just saw Elephant on Disney Plus. A bit cutesy poo for a nature documentary (it names the elephants in a herd) but a pleasant way to spend a quarantined afternoon. Meghan has a nice speaking voice.

People have been telling me for a long time how great Schitt's Creek is. I just watched the first episode, and it was...okay. A less funny Arrested Development. Is it worth trying again? Do Liza Minnelli or The Fonz join the cast at any point?

I'm watching Day for Night and though it is always nice to knock a classic off the to-do list I don't think it's aged that well. There is a great scene with a cat though and I still have twenty minutes or so left so I'm reserving judgment slightly (not enough to not post while taking an internet break though).

It gets a lot better and actually has well thought-out and organic character development. It became one of my favorite shows. The first episode suffers due to them still finding their footing and Chris Elliot just being super gross. However, they tone that down a bit while keeping the spirit of that character. I've been watching some retrospectives showing the characters and it's clear the reason why the later seasons are so great is because of how they started in season 1, so it makes me appreciate season 1 more, which I didn't hate but it does pale in comparison to the other seasons.

Catherine O'Hara gives one of the funniest performances ever and I would have given her the Emmy last year and I LOVED Fleabag and everything about it.

Schitt's Creek is so heart warming!

For feel good heart warming shows, I would also recommend 'Detectorists'. That show always makes me feel happy.

I agree with others saying stick with Schitts Creek. It's the growth of all the characters throughout the whole series that makes it so special. The series finale is Tuesday and I'm so sad to see these characters go!

We have HBO for the first time ever and are watching Succession. My theory is that everyone likes that show because even the worst families look great in comparison.

I’ll take suggestions on what HBO to watch next and no NOT GoT or Plot Against America!

Same here. We watched the first ep and were unimpressed. dh had no interest in watching any more. I may have to add it to my list of things to watch alone.

It really does improve. I also wasn't pulled in by the first episode or two. But it gets much better. You could try nudging your DH to give it another chance!

We're down to the last 2 episodes of Southland (will watch tonight) and I'm bummed this show was canceled after season 5! I would have loved to watch another season or two. Have really enjoyed it. Great acting & writing.

Deadwood but there is a lot of swearing if that’s not your thing. The guy who plays Al Swearingen is awesome. It’s premised on real characters. It’s a western but it’s not a western so don’t let that part deter you. For the longest time this was my favorite tv series ever.

The recent Stephen King series, The Outsider. At first I couldn’t really tell what was going on and all of the actors (except Cynthia Erivo) are so normal their boring. But then it all came together and all those normal guys are what makes the story click. The juxtaposition of the paranormal and normal.

We had HBO for a month recently to watch His Dark Materials. Honestly, we couldn't find much else to watch. We tried Sharper Things but didn't like it. Same with Watchmen. And I don't think I can stomach Succession just now.

re Schitt's Creek - aside from taking a bit of time to get its own footing, I think it also takes a bit of time for the viewer to settle in to the characters, they way they interact, and their situation. Give it a few more episodes :)

As a sort of background, try the 2000 movie Best in Show, in which Catherine O'Hara and Eugene Levy also play a married couple.

I'm already very familiar with all the Christopher Guest films, and Eugene Levy/Catherine O'Hara...I guess that's part of why Schitt's Creek was so surprisingly just okay. I might come back to it.

I encouraged a friend to watch and she wasn’t digging it either after a few episodes, and then I heard from her a few weeks later that she’d watched more and now was so hooked and in love with it. It made me so happy because it really is such a feel good show and something that is perfect to binge during this crazy time. It also has one of the best TV LGBTQ romantic relationships I’ve ever seen.

HBO has some shows free for the month of April.
I have watched 3 episodes of 'The Wire' - great show. Idris Elba :inavoid:
Dominic West is always good and very young Michael B Jordan and all very good acting.
I have heard so much about this show for years. Glad to finally watch.

I loved Big Love. I'm watching Ugly Delicious on Netflix right now and for some reason I'm finding the NY pizza maker very sexy, I have no idea why. Some kind of twinkle in the eye or something.

Check out Home Before Dark on AppleTV+. Loved the first couple episodes. It’s a cute little family drama/mystery about a nine year old reporter and the local murder she is trying to solve. At the same time dealing with a family secret from the past.

I got sucked in to Glow Up, the Netflix makeup competition. I really like it. Just cheeky enough and it answers a lot of “how the heck do they do that” questions.
I enjoyed that. I forget the contestant's name but I'm pretty sure she was bipolar or something like it. She was so manic and then so down. I really can't imagine that she doesn't need help. She showed a couple times that she had talent but she just didn't seem stable.

Over the last 2-3 weeks I (re)watched The Americans. The episodes I rewatched, I watched in full lengths, no fastforwarding. The writers have done an amazing job in developing the characters, the story lines. The setting is great, same goes for the plot.

While I understand that the showrunners/Network opted for cancelation of the show, I just feel there could be more to tell. Probably set in the late nineties in America as a spin-off with their grown-up kids.
