I’m looking for Netflix recommendations for my mom. She enjoyed Virgin River and likes shows like Cedar Cove and other family dramas. She’s watched most of Dolly Patton’s Heartstrings series.
She might like Call the Midwife or Longmire. If she has Amazon Prime, maybe Murder, She Wrote (an oldie) or Monk (the latter of which a 95-year-old friend of mine is now enjoying).

I don't know if anyone watches the Mojo.com Top 10 lists on Youtube but they are good fun to watch as well as being quick.

Also if anyone is into quilting, the Midnight Quilt show is worth watching. Drinks wine, eats popcorn and makes beautiful quilts.

The Banker is on Apple TV+ now and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

I also watched Self Made on Netflix and while I really liked it, I didn't like what they did with the story of real life rival Annie Malone. The imaginary dancers constantly popping up didn’t do much for the story either. But it is still definitely worth the watch.

I watched the first episode of the show Cheer last night. So many people I know have raved about it, I thought it would be super entertaining, but it just seemed sad to me.

It gets rough.

"There are some really sad endings. I felt sorry for the one girl with her parents as managers. She was normally homeschooled and was only there to be on tv. She dropped out of college for her other career opportunities after the show ended. She was in one of the study groups and it sounded like her home schooling wasn't all that great. I just think it's shortsighted to be so focused on a career that isn't going to last that long. What is she going to do next?"]

I just finished Elite and it has sent me down a rabbit hole with Spanish dramas lol. A little past the halfway point with Gran Hotel and looking forward to starting Velvet after that.

I also need to start Little Fires Everywhere on Hulu as I loved the book and it stars two of my favorite actresses (Reece Witherspoon & Kerri Washington).

I just started The Expanse yesterday and whoa, it's great! Four episodes in and if I wasn't at work today (my job is somewhat essential? For now at least?) I'd probably be watching all day lol

Is Everwood streaming anywhere? I remember trying to find it.

@TanithandBenFan Has your mom seen Parenthood? That's a really good family drama. Some other ideas from past years: American Dreams, Everwood.

We both loved American Dreams! I wish it was streaming somewhere for a rewatch. I showed her the first episode of Grace and Frankie over the weekend and she loved it, so I set that up on her computer for her. It will take her awhile to get through it!

I am quite proud of myself for hooking my husband on Dear White People. We binge-watched seasons 2 and 3 over the weekend.

Was American Dreams the one based on American Bandstand, in Philly? I loved that show.

I must report that The Plot Against America is a no. A rare David Simon miss.

I didn’t like the plot against America but I suspected it was because we are living in darkish times so I don’t need to repeat it in entertainment. I wouldn’t be surprised if were finally over the dystopian entertainment hump we’ve been in the last decade.

I am now watching dickenson, an Apple TV series on Emily Dickenson played with modern twists. Enjoyable and I appreciate that the episodes are 1/2 hour. Easy to digest.

This is probably going to be the dumbest show ever but it has 4 1/2 stars on Amazon Prime. Maybe funny?

Samurai Cat
When a crime boss becomes obsessed with his cat, his goons hire a samurai desperate for cash to kill the kitty, which they believe is a goblin cat possessed by a human soul. But it's too cute to kill. So he keeps it instead. Hilarity and action ensue as Kyutaro attempts to evade detectives and learn how to care for a kitty.

I have to watch this.

We didn’t even have Netflix or HBO until this week, so basically we could watch TV for weeks catching up on things.

We started Succession last night, DH was meh but I really liked it, it bore out all my guesses about the Murdochs.

It gets better and better

I just finished it. Yeah, that was a show with absolutely no good people in it. And I tend to think that everyone is doing their best even if that best is kind of crappy.

Probably no-one else here will really be interested because cricket but The Test on Amazon Prime is really, really good. It follows the Australian men's cricket team over the course of the 18 months between the ball-tampering scandal in Cape Town and our retention of the Ashes in England. It's probably also good if you're into sports psychology kinda stuff - the team was torn apart, put back together in a way that many people viewed as "lesser", and then recovered to do what many said the team could never do - defend the Ashes in England.

I also watched Into the Spider-verse on Prime and loved it. I noticed Yesterday is also on Prime so I will probably re-watch that at some point because I adored that movie.

I might binge Picard soon.

Tiger King is too much; the level of insanity from all these folks is just...whoa. I'm four episodes in and I just...well right now I don't have words.
