Nebelhorn Trophy 2024 - Women's SP & FS

Olga - oh, SavMas Oly music. Teal blue dress that ombres into a sky blue on the skirt; beautiful crystals/stoning on the bodice, sheer teal sleeves. She only just got back to NJ a few weeks ago so I'm not sure she's in full training mode yet and it's definitely showing with all of her jumps here. Hopefully she'll be in better competitive shape by SkAm. WTH is this music change?! That was some random jazzy percussion dance break before we went back to SavMas' music. I know Olga is into her WTF programs but someone at IceHouse needs to put a stop to that nonsense in this program stat.

I love the randomness of the music changes - Olga always seems to have a fun program. The jumps weren't all there, but good opening season comp.

Very early season skate for Mikutina and axel issues continuing but not such a disaster as some of her early outings last season. I really liked her choreo sequence.

Did I miss this earlier this week or have they added pillows and a furry blanket to the bench in the KnC area here?

Janna - beige dress with some periwinkle blue airbrushing, gold stones & crystals down the deep v-neckline and open back; both sleeves have wings hanging off the lower half; one sleeve drapes off the shoulder. Well, these jumps seem better than last season. Can she re-establish herself as the top Finnish woman now that she's most definitely gone through most of her growth spurt? That wasn't unpleasant - she's still a little stone-faced with her expression but that may just be nerves about getting back to her former competitive self.

This is such an Eteri program circa 2018. Come on Janna, skate like a Finn.
Hi, this is Janna... Have you never seen me skate before? I love all Eteri skaters and will forever emulate them and you can't make me embrace my Finnish name and flag no matter how hard you try.

That furry blanket does not look good to sit on after 4 mins of athletic exertion.

I hadn’t realised Jyrkinen had changed coaches. Now with Alisa Drei rather than Mama Efimova. But same wannabe Eteri girl packaging. I’m glad she seems to be getting through her growth spell.

Hana - dress is a very sparkly, galactic midnight blues and purples with a bunch of cutouts all over the bodice in strappy sections that are echoed in the one sleeve she has, such as it were; hair is a bubble ponytail. Music is right in her quirky, totally non-classical wheelhouse - Shazam says "SOS d'un terrien en detresse" from Cirque du Soleil and that makes sense. Jumps aren't all there but this program is tremendously interesting - the choreo sequence is really effective with a sliding move.

Hana is definitely edgier than the typical Japanese lady and I’m here for it. And the gorgeous 3A.
Let's just say it... Hana is an obscure, voidy, Euro lady in a Japanese team jacket. And that Japanese team jacket could easily be swapped out for a Korean, Canadian or American team jacket.

I was just going to say this program felt a hundred years long. To each her own!
I was a bit perplexed by the dance beat which kept kicking in for about 10 seconds and then switching off again, not long enough for her to do anything with it.

Schizas really going downhill with her jumps and she will never get high PCS so….

Schizas - okay, Danse Macabre... What a weird fall on her opening jump - her free leg kicked right out from underneath her and she splatted - maybe it was just the camera angle though. And she doubles the first jump in her next pass. Dress is a burgundy red and, once more, she has a skirt of an appropriate length - not too long, not too short; straps over the shoulders and in an X across her back, sleeves begin just below the shoulders and are fitted; some silver crystals/stoning on the bodice. This is not going to keep her ahead or anywhere near Yoshida.

ETA - also, plastered on half-smile during the choreo sequence for a program with this music is a choice.

I think it's time for Schizas to evaluate her motivations and whether it's worth it to keep going. Her content is light and not really competitive, and she isn't skating like she enjoys it. She's going to struggle to make the podium at all at Canadian Nationals.
