OTTAWA, ON (Aug. 12, 2026) – Skate Canada announced today that Mike Slipchuk will transition from his role as High-Performance Director at the conclusion of the 2026–2027 competitive season, marking the end of an extraordinary 20-year tenure leading Canada’s High-Performance Programming.

To ensure a seamless transition, Slipchuk will continue to support Skate Canada in an advisory capacity following the conclusion of his High-Performance Director responsibilities, providing strategic guidance and helping to transition key initiatives.

In any case, he had a good run. Somebody else will have to take over and be blamed for everything now.

Interesting that this happens just a few weeks after the new CEO started her job. I wonder if there's some "housecleaning" going on with the new leader.

Also, there is no way that a job at this level and with this much responsibility is only 35 hours a week of work.

I would assume Shae Zukiwsky is a shoo-in if he wants the job, but maybe he's content with the role he's got?

Edited: Actually, Shae is in a higher position than Slipper, so never mind!

Mike turned 60 this past March. If SC was offering a defined benefit pension plan back when he started, having now reached 20 years of service, he'd meet the magic 80.

If they're looking at internal hires, André Bourgeois has been the NextGen Director since 2016. Wonder if he's thrown his hat in the ring?
