Med injured, possibly out of GPF

And, another one bites the dust! I am sorry that she is injured, and hope she is able to both take care of herself, and return to competition. There is a price to pay for all those jumps....tano or not. Ask Tara, Shomo, Yuzru...etc. This is all going to be so interesting to see how it unfolds.

With so much at stake for all of them, it will be hard for the skaters to make decisions. And Eteri, from what I saw in the K&C when one of her skaters fell in the SP doesn't seem very compassionate.

Few days before CoR she felt the pain in her right foot, but she didn't pay attention to that (as it's a common thing for a top level athlete). 2-3 days before the event the pain intensified and they came to the doctors, she was diagnosed with the crack in the metatarsal bone on the right foot. At the CoR she skated after having few painkiller injections, then immediately went to Germany, where the diagnosis was confirmed.
She didn't have enough time to heal her injury properly between Rostelecom and NHK, despite training less hours. She skated her LP using a very strong painkillers again. Now she is doing a rehabilitation, the doctors put a cast on her foot. She hopes to compete at GPF no matter what and will WD only if her doctors forbid it.

I hope her doctor will say no and let her rest. National will be intense.

Why on earth would she continue to skate with painkillers at silly GP events in an Olympic year?!?!

All jumps come with a pay, good technique or not. Certainly, bad technique will make you pay worse in my opinion. But all skaters have injuries at some point anyway.

They say Med is recommended to rest 4-6 weeks but I am not sure if it's a legit source. However, even if it's 6 weeks like the rumors, she would still be fine by the Olympics if she rest well.

In my opinion, it is better for Med to rest now and heal as fast as she could before Nationals.

Like Hanyu, Med has won several GPF already and has many WRs... very unfortunate for to get injured this time but GPF is not the only chance to show their feds that they're still good and will do well before Olympics.

I hope Med will take a rest, she really deserves it. She has been working so hard.

Because it's Evgenia.
As she said, she has never ever missed an event due to injury and it will be to difficult for her to just sit at home and watch all others competing in Nagoya

Understandable but if she insists on competing Now, she could miss winning the most important prize.

Hmm.

Sounds to me like it may be a better decision for her long-term to sit out the GPF? She could continue to press on as-is, but she risks worst-case scenario (injured at Olys).

Golden opportunity for Zagitova to win and build her PCS reputation to 9.5's by PyeongChang.

This feels like 97-98 season. Zagitova winning GPF is like when Tara won GPF before the Olympics, when judges were willing to give her 5.9's for presentation when Kwan was absent. Med is toast if Zagitova starts getting PCS boost from judges. Her TES is already higher than Med's when clean.

She says why in the linked article: “It is an Olympic season, but it is completely unclear what will happen in the future considering the situation in our sport, and besides, I’ve never missed a competition because of an injury even when I had been injured.”

In other words, she doesn’t feel like saving herself for the Olympics that might never happen.
