It's fabulous news however there are only at the start of the rescue process and what is scary is that is could take up to 4 months - unless they can somehow train the boys to dive as they are totally blocked in with water that could take months to drain. The authorities are starting to look into getting provisions to them whilst they start to figure out what to do. Hopefully it will be sooner rather than later that the rescue can go ahead.

Certainly cave diving is the most dangerous form of diving there is; but untrained people do scuba dives with highly trained instructors ("discover diving") all the time. And you really don't need to know how to swim to scuba dive (basic scuba training requires a 200 yard swim and 10 minute float or tread if you can't float)

If they can get in and do a basic course with the boys to explain how the equipment works, a rescue swimmer could essentially pull them through while on the scuba equipment. I guess the very dangerous part would be the cave- if a boy kicked around and caused a silt out, all visibility would be lost; but surely they would have installed a line, and a back up line- a good cave diver would never let go of a line if a silt out was a possibility. If there are some very narrow passages though, it might be impossible to do. I've heard of cave divers having to take off their equipment, push it through a hole- then go through the hole and put it all back on.

Since it is still flooding and waters might be going higher, staying in the cave seems just as dangerous.

These boys and their families must be terrified. I hope the rescuers are able to get them supplies, and get them out safely.

I cannot imagine being them--nightmares forever. But I think they will get the most aggressive safe help possible.

According to a report on tv, rescuers believe they have pumped enough water out to be able to float the boys out! :cheer2:

That is great news!!!! I hope it works out well!!

I can't imagine going spelunking but I know many people do. I went to the Jewel Caves in South Dakota and took the most basic tour (no crawling). It was neat, excellent guide but I sure as heck would not do the next level nor the "ultimate" level.

^^That is awful and they are still racing against time to pump enough water out to try a rescue before monsoon rain predicted hits in a few days. The concern is the rains will fill the cavern totally where the boys and their coach are trapped.

That is truly terrible news. He died a hero. Hopefully soon they could start getting some of them out.

Yes, the press conference took place a little while ago. It's underway.

Good luck to them, because by reading everything about this, they're going to need more than a little luck to get everyone out safely.

The Thai authorities feel that they have to move now as monsoon rains are expected any day and would cause the caves to refill in hours. Keeping everything crossed that they can get them all out safely but it's not going to be easy.

Apparently they have decided to suspend the rescue until first thing tomorrow morning - Thai time - because they have to set up certain things. So far 4 boys are out and in hospital. It could be a couple of days before they are all out safely.

They are bringing the weakest out first - hopefully the rest will be out in the next few hours!!

I've been seeing conflicting reports on whether the first group were the weakest or the strongest. In the Chilean miner rescue, they brought out some of the strongest first, since they didn't know what might go wrong and wanted people who were better equipped to deal with any unforeseen issues if they arose.

Either way, this is great news! I hope that they can continue to make good progress and that all of the boys and their coach will soon be reunited with their families and friends.

They brought out the strongest 4 first. Apparently it went better than expected. Stopping for the night because they need to replenish oxygen.
