Let's Talk Movies #36 - 2020 - Yep it is a new decade

I watched “Cookie Queens” the other day. Really a well done documentary about selling Girl Scout cookies. Three of the little girls were adorable, and the fourth was a little insufferable. But really a sweet movie.
 
A two part movie version of the Hindu epic the Ramayana is coming to a cinema near you and the combined budget for the movie is rumoured to be over $400m. That is I believe the largest budget ever for an Indian movie.

The good news is I was finally able to get into the AMC app and get my tickets for Dune: Part 3. And I also got my tickets for Doomsday as well. I was able to get both as a double feature - and both in Dolby! 😀

The MEH news is that a lot of the decent seats in IMAX & Dolby for Dune: Part 3 and Avengers are already taken for the afternoons and evenings for that week. I’m now seeing both films on that Saturday morning - Avenegers: Doomsday at 7:15am and then Dune: Part 3 at 10:45am. I’ll be there until ~1:30pm. 🙃

But I guess that’s probably better than going for two separate evenings, anyway. 🤔

Where I live (Northern Virginia/DC metro), there are showings for both films at all hours. There’s even showings from 2-5am! Who are these people that are going to the movies at that time? 🤔 🍿 🥤

People who work evening shifts, probably - or college students without morning classes.
 
Enjoying a double feature today. First film was La La Land (10th Anniversary Showing). I’m seeing future showings in my area (DC metro) until at least this Wednesday (8/26).

Overall, I still give this film a 8.7/10. These showings are in Dolby and it’s well worth it. Great performances by Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling. I know there’s still some that are 😒 about the ending, but I think the film was being realistic about Mia and Sebastian's relationship. Also, if they wanted to make it work, they probably would have. 🤷🏻‍♀️

And yes, there’s the controversy over what happened at the Oscars with Moonlight. Honestly, I’m fine with Moonlight winning Best Picture - they just should have awarded it correctly. 😬

The second film I saw was Tony. Because it is still in its wide release weekend in the 🇺🇸, I will put my review in spoiler.

Do you like coming of age films? Were you a huge fan of Anthony Bourdain? Then you’ll like this film!

I give this film an 8.8/10. Anthony Bourdain is a young aspiring writer who ends up working at a restaurant and finds inspiration - in more ways than one.

This film was shot very well and does an excellent job of showing how opportunities can realistically work for a young person. Antonio Banderas (“Chef”) gave the performance that made the story work. Dominic Sessa (Bourdain) was pretty good and showed his promise since The Holdovers.

Hmmmm….. I just assumed there would also be small kids but maybe you’re right. Not that I have time to go to see it right now…
