Let's Talk Movies #36 - 2020 - Yep it is a new decade

I saw it this afternoon. I had tempered expectations as the reviews were lukewarm. I am definitely a fan of the Star Wars franchise, but I thought the plot was basically non-existent and that for all the many action sequences it really dragged.

I still found Grogru irresistible in every scene though.
Yes Grogu was the irresistible element! I was glad for another Star Wars movie. Too many horror type flicks these days.

So……it looks like Obsession is getting a lot of hype right now. Has anyone seen it? The premise makes me wonder if it’s too much like some of the guys I knew when I was younger. 😧

I really like some horror films but it has to be supernatural/psychological horror and not slasher or gory. And body horror is a no. I’m still hoping to be able to see Hokum before it leaves theaters.
I saw Obsession on the weekend with a girlfriend who didn't realize it was supposed to be a horror movie.
Don't want to spoil it but if it helps the girl is the one obsessed with the boy and as a married woman I thought some of it was hilarious - one scene where he tries to get out of bed and she's like where are you going - that's me every night lol! and another time he is trying to go to a boys night and she's like I don't think so you've been out all day so now it's my time - that's me! I guess teen boys might find that kind of thing scary but as someone who just celebrated 25 years that's a normal Tuesday lol.

So it is definitely made for teens mild body horror in my opinion and a couple of jump scares.

Oops! 😅 I did a double feature last weekend and I just realized that I forgot to put my reviews on here! 😆

Pressure: 9.0/10. If you’re a fan of WWII films, you’ll like this. This film does a pretty good job of showing how something like understanding weather correctly can affect war strategy. Brendan Fraser did a nice job despite not really looking like Eisenhower. 😛

Backrooms: 7.8/10. This was a pretty interesting concept. But it’s been a week since I saw it and I still don’t completely understand what “the horror” really was. The production design is superb. Warning: Some of these scenes are done from the POV of a someone holding a handheld camcorder that is “trembling”. If seeing a view like that would bother you too much, you might want to consider skipping this film.

Update: Here’s all the movie theater merch for Supergirl. And Krypto will have a plushie at AMC and Cinemark! 😀

I just came here to post that! I only know what obsession is from this thread. I have no interest. but I like the shape of this popcorn bucket. I feel like I could get a better mix of oil and salt than with the normal bucket.

🚨 🚨 🚨

Netflix just announced that Greta Gerwig’s Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew is being moved to an early 2027 release! 😱

It will be released in theaters on February 12 (with IMAX) and on Netflix on April 2.

So……does this mean that something else will be moved to that Thanksgiving weekend? 🤔 Avengers: Doomsday? You know Disney is 🤬about Dune: Part 3 being favored to get the IMAX screens on December 18.

Update: Netflix will be releasing The Adventures of Cliff Booth in IMAX theaters that Thanksgiving weekend.

I’m not sure if Netflix had first choice for that weekend because it had already it for Narnia. But I guess this finalizes that Disney is dead set on this December 18 showdown with Dune: Part 3. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Went to a double feature today. The first film I saw was Power Ballad. Being that it’s still in its opening weekend, I’ll put this review in spoiler.

Are you a fan of Paul Rudd or Nick Jonas? Do you enjoy 😝 about musicians? Then you’ll like this film!

My overall score for this film is 8.7/10. Rick (Paul Rudd) is an American who’s the lead singer of a wedding band in Ireland 🇮🇪 who has a gig where the one of the groom’s friends is famous boy band member Danny Wilson (Nick Jonas). After singing a song together, Danny and Rick spend the evening creating some songs including a ballad where Rick says most of the lyrics. Six months later, this ballad becomes a hit and Rick begins a mission to prove that Danny should give him some credit for the song.

This film gave a lot of 😆 and Rudd and Jonas have fairly good chemistry. I think the film does a great job of showing how success and happiness can be redefined when one’s “dreams” don’t exactly come true.

The second film I saw was Masters of the Universe. Being that it’s still in its opening weekend, I’ll also put this review in spoiler.

Unless you’re a fan of the universe, you’re probably not going to like the story of this film.

My overall score for this film is 7.5/10 - if you’re a fan of the universe. This was a fairly good time - I do think the live action animation could have been a bit better, especially for the $170-200M spent on this. And there’s A LOT of innuendo in this film, especially around “the sword”, “fist”, and “ram”. 🤭 😳 I think that the film could have been about 20-30 minutes shorter.

Also, this is an Amazon MGM film and during a chase scene, Adam/He-Man is prominently saved by………an Amazon delivery truck! 🚚 🙄 😏
