Keeping Track of Criminal Cases & SafeSport Suspensions in Skating

Nu? Duhamel was suspended because she was directing her anger to another coach at a skating rink. Under other circumstances, she would not have been suspened.

Canada decriminalized adultery in 1969, and adultery is not, as far as I know, a basis for professional discipline for Canadian skating coaches.

None of this is to say that we shouldn't find Marcotte a detestable creature, but c'est la vie.
Not adultery, but I’d think discipline would depend on the relationship between Marcotte and the other coach. If he was a program director, did she report to him? In many businesses, having a relationship with a direct report would be cause for discipline. Perhaps this is why he left the rink? Who knows.

However, it's also possible that the rink fired him for misconduct/ethics violations, etc but all that happened outside of the Safe Sport system.
Which was exactly my point.

If someone without knowledge of the situation looks up names, they would find censure on Megan. But not on him and the reason he is no longer employed at that club.

How many of you know about someone whose job application says previous jobs, who answer "it was not a good fit"? And leaves it at that. A safe sport record is going to be her lasting lasting "legacy". His's legacy will become "left because it was not a good fit"

What is wrong with that? In Canada, as in our country, there is a zone of privacy around sexual activities between consenting adults. And thank goodness for that.

As for bullies, if they don't want to be known as bullies, all they have to do is refrain from bullying.

It’s wrong if he was in a position of power over her and she felt like she had no choice but to comply as has been said by a poster on Reddit.

I have no idea if that is true or not but can see that it could be a possibility and deserves further investigation.

Maybe I have my priorities effed up, but someone who cheats is likely to cheat again.

Maybe I have priorities all messed up, but I would prefer to know about a coach who gets involved with someone in the same skating club - especially if I have a female student (same would be true if it was a male).

Both yelling at a coach or student and infidelity are wrong. As a parent I would want to know.

Look I'm not a fan of either I'm not taking sides here. I'm just saying what I would want to know before enrolling a student. But then I am unlikely to be in a situation to choose a coach.

His listing says "not currently accepting new students". That seems odd to me. Most new coaches want to build a clientele at a new club, so to speak, when they join. Is he bringing students with him? Or is the club going to assign some of their current students to him?
Or it’s a shadow job. I don’t know the rules in Canada, but there might be a requirement for him to keep his credentials.

Maybe he's working with potential "just matched" new pairs? Fiona Bombardier worked with him when she was with Gabriel Farand.

Some posters here are more familiar with the Canadian coaching certification system, but I believe to maintain national-level coach status, coaches have to acquire a minimum annual amount of professional development points. They can do that through e.g. attending seminars, participating on committees, or taking other kinds of professional education. I think they also have to maintain their status as active coaches registered with Skate Canada, but I don't know if that requires holding a job at an SC club.

Lori Ward at Broken Ice has a new story about the Tyler Myles case.

He's appealing his ineligibility (again) by claiming that the investigator was biased, since she was investigating one complaint against him while receiving evidence about another complaint against him. He also claims that she didn't conduct the process fairly.

The mistress complained about the wife? Sounds like an anecdote. Don't sleep with a married man if you don't want the wife to yell at you. The quiet hubby is such a hero! Where does Skate Canada muscle in is beyond me. Even if they do, shouldn't they punish the mistress and the hubby for breaking some moral clause, when expectations of conduct are not met? Or do they have other standards like Sorensen case proved?
As for Meagan, karma is a b*tch. The wife twitted a lot of nasty things, mostly about Russians. Now the nastiness returned to her in a form of a worst case scenario.

Meagan could have complained to Safe Sport about the relationship between her husband and the other coach, but that could affect Bruno's career and his income, if he were to be suspended and/or disciplined. That would affect his ability to support her family. So she's damned if she does, and damned if she doesn't.

I find your comments that what Meagan is going through is Karma for mean tweets, disgusting at best.
