Keeping Track of Criminal Cases & SafeSport Suspensions in Skating

I think she showed great restraint to only behave in a way that garnered a mere 2 week suspension. YMMV
It may be that it was Skate Canada that acted with great restraint in giving Meagan Duhamel a mere two-week suspension.

As far as I know, we have no information about exactly what she did to draw the suspension. That lack raises the question of whether a coach with a lower profile would have drawn a similarly short suspension for a similar conduct.

Or the opposite, i.e., the Martha Stewart effect of being made a high profile example for something for which many others are never punished.

The mistress complained about the wife? Sounds like an anecdote. Don't sleep with a married man if you don't want the wife to yell at you. The quiet hubby is such a hero! Where does Skate Canada muscle in is beyond me. Even if they do, shouldn't they punish the mistress and the hubby for breaking some moral clause, when expectations of conduct are not met? Or do they have other standards like Sorensen case proved?
As for Meagan, karma is a b*tch. The wife twitted a lot of nasty things, mostly about Russians. Now the nastiness returned to her in a form of a worst case scenario.

Reddit says she cursed and yelled at the other coach while coach was teaching a on ice session. People over there said that they witnessed it.

Not a good thing. I’m sure the kids in the class would have been upset seeing that.

If so, two weeks seems about right to me. Enough to show others this will behaviour will not be tolerated but not overly severe.

If the rumours are true... sounds like Meagan hit her boiling point at the wrong time, doesn't make it right but, we've all had moments in life where it wasn't the right time for doing something we may regret. I've always liked Meagan, and I will continue to like Meagan going forward. I wish her and her beautiful girls all the best.

Are Megan and Bruno split??

BTW, I agree with the poster who pointer out that Martha Stewart was held accountable in a significant way for a "crime" that many others get away with, especially the great orange DJT. He committed rape and was found guilty of many other criminal acts and he has never been held accountable for any of his actions, He makes Martha look like an angel. The US legal system seems very unfair in this case, but I am sure there are similar failings in other country's systems too.

Let’s stick to the topic of SafeSport and other investigations into skating-related conduct. The US legal system belongs in PI unless it pertains to a skating-related crime.

@Winnipeg There's a lot of rumors out there. They may or may not be getting divorced (and there are allegations that he's cheated on her multiple times with multiple women before), but it does appear to be true that they're no longer coaching together.

Maybe separating work will help cool things off. Too bad, always sad to see a love story have troubles but it happens all the time unfortunately.

He was allegedly fired from Oakville as a result of the affair. Meagan was not.

There's no evidence to support the fired part, but around the time this incident took place he did indeed stop coaching at Oakville while Meagan stayed.
So she gets a very public "punishment" and he gets to sling away?

Yeah I know he was most likely terminated, but presumably found a new club?

What would you suggest as the appropriate punishment for adultery? A public whipping?
My point is - she's being publicly censored for a response to a personal situation (which was not appropriate, but).

He is only semi being "outed" as an cheater. Which is easily disguised.

Nu? Duhamel was suspended because she was directing her anger to another coach at a skating rink. Under other circumstances, she would not have been suspened.

Canada decriminalized adultery in 1969, and adultery is not, as far as I know, a basis for professional discipline for Canadian skating coaches.

None of this is to say that we shouldn't find Marcotte a detestable creature, but c'est la vie.

I think a 2-week suspension is hardly the worst-case scenario.

How about a 2-month suspension? ;)

Seriously, I think a public slap on the wrist would be fair. To show that you shouldn't mess with other coaches when you run the skating school they work for, even if technically you aren't the supervisor.
